Sure Kataang has canon evidence hinting that it will happen, but it has very little canon evidence saying why it should happen To me, this seems like a very odd complaint for somebody who ships Zutara to make about a ship. It's actually not. I wouldn't have had a problem with Kataang if they had actually got together with a storyline I liked, but they've been beating around the bush since day 1, and the fact is Bryke's making it happen, but they're not showing me why I should be into it. And that's one of the problems I feel that Bryke has with romance; they have these pairings picked out, and they want them to happen--regardless if it actually fits with the story. Kataang *could* have fit with the story for me, but it hasn't because it's just getting the point for me where I'm thinking, "PLEASE JUST HAPPEN." They're not building up suspense, imo, they're just dragging out something that needs to be resolved right now.

Maiko I think was terribly written up until Boiling Rock. "You're so beautiful when you hate the world"? Oh god, the cringe inducing horror. It was well done in Boiling Rock, however even then it's because the actual romantic dialogue was minimal. And despite being pretty well executed in that episode, it still suffered from the fact that it was dependent on the fact that Mai loves Zuko, something the previous episodes have been completely incapable of convincing me of. Kataang. As people have said, why must it be dragged on so long? It's ridiculously predictable enough, we don't need seasons of blushing and "omg cute" crush scenes. And whenever anything does happen, they never explore the actual relationship. They just kiss and then the ship is dropped. Sure Kataang has canon evidence hinting that it will happen, but it has very little canon evidence saying why it should happen other than "he likes her, durrrr" I agree 100% with these sentiments. Have in fact used them when "discussing" the show with my husband & 11YO son. (For all the good it does me! ) Sure, Mai did a good thing saving Zuko & company. A great thing, even. But as has already been said, I just don't buy that relationship. Never have. I know there's supposedly this comic out there that explains the "making" of Maiko, but come on, if this relationship was so important, couldn't we see a little of it? Why drop it on us, seemingly out of the blue, in S3? As for Kataang...you're right, we tend to see that relationship from Aang's POV. Katara's reactions are pretty ambivalent IMO. Can be taken as good or neutral, depending on how you look at them (and I suppose which ship you support). Either way, she's not exactly proclaiming herself Aang's girl to the world, is she? That ambivalence of hers, that lack of resolution, can be pretty annoying. If Kataang is the relationship Bryke intended all along, why not just put the two together for pete's sake? Would it really have hurt the show? ...*sigh*...sorry, got a little worked up there. Going back to lurking now... Spoiler brackets added to a small snippet I considered spoilery.

Sure Kataang has canon evidence hinting that it will happen, but it has very little canon evidence saying why it should happen To me, this seems like a very odd complaint for somebody who ships Zutara to make about a ship. I think the reason why Zutara should happen is that I find it much more interesting and to have a lot more potential. Kataang is further along the canon road than Zutara, and it's definitely reached the point where it needs to show why the two should be together, apart from the fact that "lol Aang's a boy and Katara's a girl." (btw it's just my opinion that there hasn't been anything. Don't bother digging up some evidence or making arguments against that. It's very understandable if you disagree) Instead, well into season 3, it was still stuck on the stupid blushing and crushing that should have ended way earlier. Immediately after anything serious or potentially serious happens between the two, a la Cave of Two Lovers, the ending of CoD, DoBS, etc, it regresses back into the "cute" awkwardness, or just seemingly drops the ship altogether. They kissed in part 1 of DoBS. It's not mentioned again in that episode. And all the way from then, up to and including Boiling Rock nothing remotely shippy happens between the two of them. I'm not saying that from a Zutarian point of view. That's just really poor romantic writing.

Well, I for one, ship Zutara, which I am a convert to, Tykka, which has pwned me since The Chase, and is my personal favorite, Sukka, contradictory in the show's time frame with Tykka? Yeah. But Sokka's got a long road ahead.
Neutral ships: Kataang, Maiko, Taang,
Anti: Tokka, Azulaang Sokkla.
I'll argue with anyone that so desires.

Taang was my first real ship that I sailed. . . and it got me into Zutara, which is, of right now, my favorite ship. There is so many good theories and speculations about their relationship that its hard not to get sucked into it all.
Sukka, is just to canon to be ignored. I've always liked it since Kyoshi Island, so its all good.

Maha posted this over at the Crystal Catacombs, but I know many of you don't read our thread, so I thought I'd share it. redbrunja.livejournal.com/143180.html#cutid1It's a pretty fabulous essay-like thing talking about canon v. fanon. What do yall think?

I don't care if my ships contradict. My three favorite ships are Zutara, Maiko, and Azulaang.

I honestly don't see what Google fight proves in this case...
It's not saying what's the better ship or anything. That's all a matter of personal preference.

Well this poll is really about the no. of people who support each ship and the google search is a good (and amusing) way to show it

Not really. Other things besides the ships are included in that. Seriously, if you Google search Maiko and Toko (or any ships really, these are just the best examples)... not all of those results pertain to shipping. If you want an accurate number of shippers for each pairing, you have to do a poll like this one, and have it open to a large group of people. May I direct yall to kaibasgirl's icon?

Yeah, the google fights don't mean anything, but they're fun. Zenjamin, I don't think Toko stood a chance against George..

Kataang, Sukka, Tokka.
Yep, Sukka and Tokka don't really work together, but I love both ships.
