I never said I was against Freedom of Speech. Please read my post again. Anything against Freedom of Speech? I think not. I just used my Freedom of Speech to say "under God", and to even be posting in this thread.

no but you said we should just be quiet and not change it. the world is all about being official. since this nation IS NOT christian we shouldn't have to say under god it should not be written in law. just being quiet during that part does not accomplish anything. now instead if we were to talk about such things we may have something going. since you have no problem lets change it so there is no under god and then you can say under god when that part comes while everyone else doesn't.

Well, how selfish. Anyway, what would you change "under God" to anyway? And, I never said we shouldn't talk about it. Again, please read my post over again.

Well, let's see. Try saying that out loud. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under G-- I mean democracy, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Why don't you just say that while everyone else says, "under God"? See? I'm not trying to take away your Freedom of Speech.

Why don't you just say that while everyone else says, "under God"? See? I'm not trying to take away your Freedom of Speech. It's not an issue of freedom of speech. It's about the fact that it is unusual that our national pledge would cater to a specific religious belief, which goes against the nature and values of our Constitution. Seeing as it isn't even a tradition it should be removed. People shouldn't be forced to go out of their way and deviate from the pledge, to express their support for the country without going against their own religious beliefs.

They aren't going against their own religious beliefs if they just leave that part out. If I lived in another country, and the pledge to their country said something against my religion, I would leave that part of it out.

I'm saying they shouldn't have to leave it out. Our pledge should be able to be a tribute to our country without going against anyone's religious beliefs. If the official pledge does alienate anyone in that manner, it is not staying true to American values.

It doesn't have to go against any one person's beliefs. They can think of "under God" as their own god, whether it be the Greek gods or themselves or whatever it is.

And if they don't believe in God...
The pledge of allegiance should be about our country, not religion. And seeing as it wasn't even in it originally, there's no reason to not change it.
