rofl. ... and then kill and eat you. It's how we retain our youth and beauty... Can't remember...but the first thing I saw at a drive in was a double feature of Dumbo and Mary Poppins...but they were ancient even then... Clever answers on both accounts. Blind Bandit : My dad is pretty old, and even he plays video games and watches cartoons. I don't think there is really anything childish about it. It's when you can't prioritize those activities (ie: you are obsessed to the point of failing in your other responsibilities) that you loose your adulthood status.

I'll be 26 in a couple of weeks and my Dad is 56 and we both will be watching Avatar next week.
As for video games; when my Dad was recovering from knee replacement surgery he spent most of the time playing Lego Star Wars.

I don't want to grow up, I'm a toys r us kid. I still play magic the gathering for crying out loud. Some things you just are never too old for , like good cartoons. I actually take the time to talk about things with my kids when watching this show. I think it is one of the best cartoons to come out in a long time. I grew up a transformers fan, and when my son was old enough to watch that, he got into it, ( i actually didn't know till recently they were still making xformers cartoons, the movie rocked, and I do not still have my G1 toys, I gave them away to some poor kids) but transformers now is nothing compared to what you can learn from Avatar. There are so many things in it that adults could learn from. One of my favorite things this show teaches kids is responsibility. Sometimes we don't want it , and sometimes it gets thrust on you, life has a way of doing that. I end up showing my kids where the Gaang does good by taking responsibility and where they fail. Allot of times , it really is too deep for 5-11 year olds, but it does get them thinking and they love the action, as do I. I think its a shame really that most parents aren't as involved with their kids with what they watch. I am on it like a hawk. There are too many terrible things on TV right now, but Avatar is not one of them. It's good to have a cartoon to talk about that has hope for change, that kids can bring it. It helps kids have their own sense of purpose. Saving the world is a bit big , but we all live in our own world, kids do sometimes need to see how they can make it better, and not blame someone else. I even come to this site for news I can tell them about what is coming up, spoilers and whatnot, I am not telling them anything about the awakening and everyone in the house is patiently waiting for Season 3 to start!! My wife too. As others have pointed out, the show is not afraid to shy away from things such as war, death, spirituality, etc.. and that is what has some draw to it. Disney is still king of having kids see something really scary, sad and deal with it. Nemo is my favorite example. Avatar deals with kids who have been dealt a tough hand. But all of them have their own strengths and weaknesses. I am sure you all know, Aangs defeat in the season ender will become his greatest motivation for victory. It's hard for kids to get back up sometimes after getting knocked off the horse. But thats why I love this show. It helps them see they can get up. Get up smarter, tougher. Anyway, enjoy season 3 everyone.

Just about to turn 21. I have a couple of friends (22 and 23) who adore avatar. It is a hard show not to fall in love with, as long as you go into watching it with an open mind (I have a stubborn friend who refuses to watch it cause he didn't like the first ep >.>).

My mom doesn't watch Avatar, but she was a rabid fan of Power Rangers (and a devoted Tommy Oliver fangirl) 10+ years ago.
I wonder if Avatar would even be considered a children's show if it weren't animated? Anime in Japan can be targeted towards teens and adults, but in America, they laugh at you and say, "Silly adults! Cartoons are for kids!"

Thing is, I tried my best to explain the story to my parents in Korean.. but it's sort of hard to translate "bending" and all that. But interestingly, my mom seemed to actually be interested in the show. So did my dad. Never happened before. Yeah.. this show has some nice, sublime elements that help me feel a bit up... even after a crappy, shoddy day. I've been talking about this show so much, my former AP Biology teacher said he'd watch one episode for a fellow avatard friend and me. Lolz. He should watch the first ever epsiode... there's a marathon next week, and he can tune in whenever, before Nick at Nite, I suppose. He's 28 years old... born 1979. Lolz. Him being old makes me feel old too. He went through a mid-life crisis over the summer and apparently got a tatoo and bleached his hair blonde. Everyone guffawed at him. I'm just hoping he'll be like all the other cool adults who like the show and like the characters and what little he might grasp of the story, but I'm also kinda worried he'll just be "What a cruddy show.. stupid little kid, watching Nickelodeon instead of having a life."

Eh, you can call him stupid and boring if he doesn't catch on to what an excellent show it is. Nah, don't do that. But if he doesn't get it, seriously, his loss. Wish I knew somebody to torment into watching it. XD

I'm 31 and I love the show. It's one of the few things on TV I watch religiously.
I love the Gaang and find them a terrific bunch of kids that people can relate to. Looking back growing up I can easily see how I've felt like my parents don't understand who I am (Toph) or my more "motherly" characteristics come out (Katara). I love Sokka's humor and I find Aang to be delightful in his quest to save the world but still be the sweet, lovable airbender he is (although he might get a little aangsty in Season 3...only a week to go).

Almost...19 here.
I don't really watch any other show like this one save for those DC cartoons...not into anime.
But I love epic stories, and good characters are what sell a show to me. Avatar's got great characters.
Which is why I personally wished this current storyline could go on for a wee bit longer...seems like they've hardly run out of character stories. Like, am I the only one who doesn't think we'll get a whole lot of Toph centered storylines in the upcoming season?

I'm 21, and I love this show. XP But what's really nice is that I've gotten my Mom, Dad, sister, and brother-in-law hooked on it too, so whenever we're all together it's a fun thing we can all talk about. I eventually plan on getting the rest of my relatives hooked on it as well. ^^ I think that's one of the things I love most about this show, it has so many different layers and elements to it that everyone can find something interesting or enjoyable in it. Although I do have to admit it does get a little embarrassing when sitting through the Bratz and HotWheels commercials. ~_~;;
