Islam is a faith and it shouldnt be associated with particular races, nationalities or political/ideological groups. The sad thing is a great many Muslim fail to make the distinction themselves which feeds into this "us vs them" mentality.

isn't an ideological group faith based? not to take away from your argument though. On the west bank thing in the past year and a half my view on the situation has changed greatly and while this is nice until the Israeli government becomes responsible for settlers actions I have no faith in the State of Israel.
There are many obvious examples of ideologies that have no religious basis.
As for Israel, it is at least credited by both friend and foe with the capacity and responsibilities of a State which cannot be as easily be said of its counterpart(s) in the undoubtedly fractious matter.
