Season one had only one filler episode That sentence is lacking in truth. Kaneda is right there was more than one filler in season one. There was Imprisoned, the Great Divide, The Fortuneteller and The Northern Air Temple.

TNAT was not filler. It contributed greatly to DOBS.

TNAT was not filler. It contributed greatly to DOBS. No it didn't. "omg hot air balloons!!!" isn't a great contribution at all. Season 1's flaw was that it was mostly a bunch of disjointed, stand alone, hit or miss episodes.

How was Imprisoned a filler episode? Haru came in there and he came in S3 because of it!!! Was he not an important part of the invasion? The Fortuneteller might've been another one but TNAT has to have some kind of significance. Didn't Teo make a reappearance? And what about the air balloons? All anyone does in S3 is cry and angst. S2 was when Avatar really got lazy in the animation department.

Season one wasn't very plot-driven, but it was the more painstakingly animated of the two complete seasons we have thus far (and it's a notch above S3 right now, as well), and a lot of these "hit-or-miss" episodes were great - better than Tales or Appa's Lost Days, for sure.

S2 animation was appaling places... I thought bitterwork was especially bad Iroh and Zuko looked like they were made of Lego...... Season 1 seemed a bit more childish I enjoyed season for more than just the story I liked the fact that I was a noob on DH then and there were loads of spoilers and disscuissions and I just enjoyed the whole atmosphere the ..... Season 3 is my fav for one reason alone I don't even hav to explain

It's annoying how people think minor details save an episode from fillerdom. Although not as annoying as when people actually think there's no such thing as filler because it has "lololol character development"
Anyway, when Season 1 was good, it was very good. (Siege of the North)
When it wasn't so good, it was pretty mediocre. (About half of Season 1)
Chibi Chan, I don't see how a Naruto fan can complain about cliche and annoying angsting. Heehee, I'm clever.

It's annoying how people think minor details save an episode from fillerdom. Although not as annoying as when people actually think there's no such thing as filler because it has "lololol character development" Although I toss the word "filler" around a lot, in truth, I separate Avatar episodes into two distinct categories: ones I like, and ones I dislike (ones that are good and ones that aren't, if you will). "Fillers" like Imprisoned and The Fortuneteller really appealed to me. The way Katara's character was written in Imprisoned really impressed me, and the laughs were good ("I'll make sure Appa doesn't eat all your hay", "I'll show you who's boss: Earthbending Style!"). Haru's backstory was, for me, compelling enough to make the episode complete - if only they hadn't brought him back for the invasion just for the sake of bringing him back. Bleh. The writing in the Fortuneteller was also great. Sokka's predicament was humorous, but it got me on a deeper level by offering some commentary on people who hold beliefs without anything propping them up (and also on those who refuse to let those people live their lives under those beliefs). Aang and Katara had some great scenes with Aunt Wu, and Aang cooling the lava at the end was a great way to top it off. If S1 was hit-or-miss, then here's my hits and misses: Hits: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20 Misses: 5, 11, 15, 17 Whereas S2's hits and misses go like this for me: Hits: 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20 Misses: 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 15, 16 Really, really on the fence (probably hits): 1, 19 S1 has a 4:1 hit-to-miss ratio, and S2 has a ~3:2. I felt that S1 was stronger because, despite its really episodic nature, the animation and writing were more consistent. Episodes that didn't contribute directly either to the advancement of the plot or to the characters' backstories could be watched over and over in the first season, but in the second one you watch an episode like "Avatar Day" or "Appa's Lost Days" once and you're done.

Book 1 was good and all but it just lacked good storyline. Too many fillers. Such as the Great Divide, Imprisoned, The Fortuneteller, The Northern Air Temple, etc... Even though it did start a great series and brought in key information, it just didn't have what Book 2 has. The humor was pretty weak this season and not enough action. I did enjoy the season though.
Book 2 was the best. It had everything. Better humor. Way better action. The addition of Toph, one of my fav characters, and the epicness, such when the season got to an end. The shocking finale a great way to leave us Avatarians hanging, and the also the character portrayment. It was just great how they built Zuko up the whole season and "let him down" in COD. I also loved the return of characters such as Suki and Jet with which they had important storylines, whereas in Book 1 they didn't. The animation was SO much better this season. The only complaint I have is the beginning where they added a few fillers but after Avatar Day, the creators were back on track. I gotta say, Book 1 was great, but it pales in comparison to Book 2.
Book 3 is awesome. It comes in a close second to Season 2 so far. Why? The animation is at its best, the action is still great, and the storyline is more epic than ever. DOBS had the most action any Avatarian could ever dream of. It was just flat-out epic. However, what made it behind Season 2 was all the fillers while the gaang was waiting for the invasion. They were not needed but some of them I enjoyed but they just didn't relate to the storyline. However, after DOBS, the storyline was back on track with WAT and TFBM. Also, this season is just a little too emotional. A character breaks down and crys at least every other episode.
To sum it up, Book 2 is the best. However, I think Book 3 will pass it ater the finale airs...

Season 2 haters should consider the reaction if an episode like Imprisoned, Great Divide, King of Omashu, The Fortuneteller, or Jet were made now.
People would react very negatively. Season 1 essentially got a free pass because we didn't have such high standards then.

Season 1 essentially got a free pass because we didn't have such high standards then. If we got another King of Omashu or Great Divide, I wouldn't be so happy. But Jet, Imprisoned, and The Fortuneteller shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as those two. I'd put those three above plenty of Book 2 episodes, and a handful of the third's, as well. I don't know about anyone else, but my standards were high from the start - and now that the first two seasons are complete, I can say with confidence that I'm able to judge them equally. Season 1 wasn't plot-driven like its cousin season 2, but the quality of its storytelling within those individual twenty-two minute episodes was more satisfying.

How was Imprisoned a filler episode? Haru came in there and he came in S3 because of it!!! Was he not an important part of the invasion? Not really...the Hippo and the Boulder were just as effectual.

I think its best to decide this when the whole series is over.

How was Imprisoned a filler episode? Haru came in there and he came in S3 because of it!!! Was he not an important part of the invasion? He had nothing to do with the plot. He may as well have been a random extra. People should stop looking for minor unimportant details to get an ep out of filler status. The only episode that I think has escaped being a filler due to a later episode is "Jet."

Again, I am waiting until its over. Watch every episode in chronological order, then make a decision.
