And Zuko isn't? ;p That boy's picture is under the definition of "conflicted" in the dictionary. con·flict·ed /kənˈflɪktɪd/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kuhn-flik-tid] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –adjective full of conflicting emotions or impulses: a situation that makes one feel very conflicted. screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/101/183.jpg

^I agree, if Aang was at his best he would've pwned Zuko. Zuko's powerful, but i don't think he should be compared to Aang Well Aang still had 3 bending styles at his disposal. Sure, if Aang would have cleared the last chakra and got over Katara, he would have been whooping a** in the season 2 finale with his Avatar State, but that would be sort of anticlimatic, if he takes the DaiLee, Zuko and Azula down by himself. That said we don't speak about who is the most powerfull, since the question is, if Zuko is a powerfull bender at all. The answer is of course YES. Every character on whom the creators spend time to build up and characterize should be considered powerfull (stronger then the average) unless the creators specifically created him/her to considerably weak. Zuko stands out of these all characters, because he is Aangs main rival and will remain one, even if he becomes his ally, which means that he has to stay a dangerous and worthy adversary for the Avatar, who is the strongest bender of them all. The show would gain NOTHING, if Zuko wouldn't be a powerfull bender or else there would be no threat coming from him chasing Aang. So Zuko definetly is a powerfull bender, even with his inner turmoil present, he just hasn't tapped into his full potential yet, which practically means that he will become considerably stronger throughout season 3. My conclusion would be that Zuko is and always was a powerfull bender, but not as powerfull as he can be and most probably will!

Even if Zuko isn’t considered a powerful bender the show would still have plenty of villains to keep Aang and the gang busy. There is a new villain who we can all agree is more powerful then Zuko, Azula. Sure Azula is not as well known to Aang as Zuko is, but I think Aang would assume Azula is a greater threat to him then Zuko.
Zuko is indeed powerful, but I am not sure if he is even close to being as powerful as some of the other characters on the show, but that is just my honest opinion.

His role on the show is way more important then hers, because he is Aangs rival. No one else is directly pitted against Aang on so many levels like Zuko. Being it in a fight or by prallels in their story. Zuko is Aangs worthy adversary. That is his role on the show. Their plots come closer and closer together, reaching a new high in CoD. Zuko may not be set to be Aangs peer, but he has to be quite powerfull for this role to challange Aang to further Aangs development.

I actually think that Zuko and Aang will go separate paths till the end of the series, that is when I think there will be an alliance of some sort, possibly to take down Ozia. Ever since Zuko betrayed Katara and joined up with Azula and her team, I consider Zuko being an enemy once again, but that is just my view on it.
You could call Zuko a rival of Aang but I just don’t see it. A rival is someone you compete against, it may be true that Zuko might compete with Aang to prove himself but Aang doesn’t return this goal. In fact I think Aang wants to Zuko to join him and his group, so basically we will never know the relationship between the two till it is confirmed and described on the show by both of these characters, or at least in my opinion.

Aang killing a vulture-bee isn't all that serious imo Aang was "conflicted" If you take in account the eastern philosophy that Atla borrows much from, taking a life is serious business, even non-sentient life. And since Aang doesn't eat meat, it suggests that his culture has those values. So Aang killing that bug out of rage was pretty serious. It was no longer a threat, having surrendered Momo and it was just trying to escape. Actually I can't see the appeal of season one Zuko. I don't know what those fangirls are thinking He was almost comical with that floppy ponytail, and he was so short and skinny and had that "Arrggh" expression all the time. I didn't think he was very attractive until late in season 2.

Zuko didn't slit the throats of the earthbending soldiers who kidnapped Iroh, did he? They defeated them and walked away, as Aang should have. …I thought Aang killing the bird thing was meant to establish how upset he was. As for the original question, I’m sadly going with no. I’m not saying that because I don’t want Zuko to marry Katara or whatever but I am saying that because Mike and Bryan basically said that he isn’t. If you purchase the season one boxset of Avatar, which I totally recommend, and listen to audio commentary for the Siege of The North Part 1 (where Zuko is breaking in the Northern Water Tribe ninja style) you’ll hear the creators talk about how it was important for Zuko to non-bending skills he was good at it (like infiltrating the Nortern Water Tribe where the whole Fire Nation had failed) since he’s not a great bender. So, going by that, I would say Zuko is a pretty good bender but it isn’t his thing and I wouldn’t exactly him powerful.

That was an entire season ago. I don't understand how anyone could watch CoD and still say "no,"
The most recent piece of evidence is the only one to consider in a matter like this, because we're talking about whether or not they're strong RIGHT NOW, not several months ago. I could hardly say Katara was a bad bender based on the scenes in the first and second episode, could I?

Zuko is a powerful bender, all his struggle to show his dad that he is not weak has made him extreamly "strong." Its like in school where you have the kids who just are ungodly smart and learn easily, opposed to the kids who have awsome grades but have to study like a mad man in order to achieve them. The ones who struggle have the ability to adapt better in college, becoming successful in life because of the work ethic they aquired early on, not relying on gifted abilities. Zuko has always been someone who you know will keep growing because of his determination. In Crossroads of Destiny Zuko was the reason why the Gaang got beaten, if Zuko hadn't stepped in Azula would have been the one needing some healing! So do I think Zuko's a powerful bender, heck yes! he just needs to get his back stabing butt over to the side of good, creating some kind of dramatic romantic love affair with Katara! And then he can be Fire Lord after the Fire Nation is defeated and make lots of babies with Katara (who is the Fire Lady!!!) !!!

I could hardly say Katara was a bad bender based on the scenes in the first and second episode, could I? ITA. Katara and Zuko fought without any help from the sun or the moon in a cave and Katara had a great body of water nearby. No one had an adventage over the other. This was the best moment to compare their bending skills/strength and we could see that they are each others peers. If we consider Katara a powerfull bender or even a master, Zuko should be seen as one as well.
