"I'm sure Aunt Wu's prediction is far enough into the future that Zuko could still become a powerful bender (either way) by that time." and i'm sure aunt wu's predictions are a load of cack, and the whole point of that episode was her little bromide to aang about futures and their formation...
"that Zuko becomes an even more powerful bender then he already is, which still is enough to be worthy opponent for Katara and Aang." bugger all, people, it's "Avatar:The Last Airbender", not "How lovin' Awesome is this Random Character"
Watch the language dude...try and keep it PG 'kay?

I live in Chesapeake so I thought that was cool. But anyways.... I think that Zuko is a way more powerful bender than he was last season. That was some pretty righteous bending he did in the Season Finale, and anyone who can honestly say that he hasn't greatly improved has to be missing something. I'm not saying he's up there with Azula and Toph and Katara, but he's gaining progress and is far on his way to being even more powerful himself.

Zuko's powerful, but he's not that powerful. He's improved a little, but i don't think he should be compared to Aang. In the CoD, Zuko will doing pretty well, but the only thing Aang was doing was dodging his attacks (it's almost like he doesn't want to hurt Zuko or something), then he dropped him with one earthbending move.
Zuko's about equal with Katara, but he's still not a match for Aang or Toph

^^Maybe I'm seeing a different Zuko than you. I saw some major improvement on Zuko's part. He was holding his own against Aang, and went toe to toe with Katara(a friggin master), so yeah the improvement has been big.
If the move you are referring to is the one I think it is, it dropped Zuko for a lot less time than it dropped on himself. Meaning that Zuko got up quicker, so I'm not so sure that is a good example. If the move hurts you more than your opponent, it's not a good thing, and getting up quicker tends to say something.
Just sticking my 2 cents in!

Yeah, I think Zuko had the upper hand there. Aang wasn't holding back; he was on the definsive the bulk of the fight because Zuko never gave him an opportunity to do otherwise. Did anyone else notice that Zuko was shooting fireblasts more rapidly than any other firebender we've ever seen? The other other benders I've seen that can attack repeatedly like that are the Dai Lee shooting bits of their gloves like bullets, and I think a volleyball-sized ball of fire is more damaging. Not to mention the gigantic dragon-esque fireball of doom he shot. I've only seen Azula create more fire than that.

Although it would make a good discussion thread.... I just want to see Zuko kick Azula's butt, it would become my new animated icon

If the move hurts you more than your opponent, it's not a good thing, and getting up quicker tends to say something. Just sticking my 2 cents in! If I recall correctly, after getting knocked down by Aang's air silhouette, Zuko got up within seconds and began fighting with Katara. When we see Aang again, he's crawling shakily out of a crater quite a bit later. Zuko held up against Aang very well, and it was partly because he has indeed become quite powerful, along with Aang not fighting very well. Aang could have done a lot better. He was still thinking like an Airbender, mostly evading. Using the tons of water on hand didn't seem to occur to him, and his earthbending were only attempts to shield himself. This is why I firmly believe that Aang has to master the Avatar State. The past avatars used the AS to plan out the best course of action, drawing on all the wisdom of their past lives. Take Kyoshi against Chin for example; she entered the AS for just a second, and then she used all the elemental bendings to split the land to move it out of Chin's reach. That was the smartest move, because it minimized the loss of human lives--Chin's was just an accident due to his own stubborness. Until Aang masters the AS, he's going to keep getting pwned, because without it he doesn't think to use all of the elements in an effective way. What's the best way to subdue a firebender? Encase his hands and feet in stone. We saw the Dai Lee to that to Zuko and it worked wonders.

That's a really interesting idea. With the connection to the Avatar State lost, Aang lost that subconscious connection to his past lives. Even without enterting the Avatar State, perhaps having that connection allowed him to fight better, as if by memory and instinct.
Kind of like a Jungian collective unconscious...except with one person and his past lives. He lost that ability to fight insticntively.
And yeah, Aang was using earthbending in this blown-out, smash 'em alive! way with huge rocks. He didn't think to send smaller, faster bits at Zuko, he was all about the huge, rolling waves of crushing rocks. He relied too much on strength and forgot skill.

^Sad, but true. I guess Aang just didn't want to sink as low as Zuko or Azula.

How is not fighting smart, not using all the resources available and making big stupid displays that fail spectacularly not "sinking low"? It sounds like you completely missed the point.

^Sad, but true. I guess Aang just didn't want to sink as low as Zuko or Azula. Huh?... Are you saying Zuko fought dirty during the finalé? Examples, please. Quoting those before me, Aang was totally oblivious to the generous supply of water in the catacombs. He fought stupidly, to be blunt -- Zuko did not.

Aang fought sloppy in the CoD, i think it was mostly because he was distracted by the Avatar State.
Maybe now he will start being more offensive. Zuko nor Azula wouldn't stand a chance then

Sure, Zuko is a powerful bender but then so are Aang, Katara, Toph and Azula. Aang was not fighting at his best in the finale. It seemed as though he had a lot going on in his mind with the whole avatar state and letting go of Katara thing. Zuko came out of no where with greatly improved skills and bending. His 'Metamorphosis' did wonders for him apparently. However under normal circumstances I think Aang would have beaten Zuko. Aang is the most powerful bender. He is the Avatar after all.

^I agree, if Aang was at his best he would've pwned Zuko. Zuko's powerful, but i don't think he should be compared to Aang
