What do you guys think Katara would be like if she was "evil"? - I've just had some ideas floating around my head about a more sadistic Katara, one that's bordering on the edge of nihilism and insanity.
Water and Ice are roughly two sides of a coin. Water is used to heal, and is versatile. It's forgiving, it represents the pacifist side of waterbending, because I doubt you're going to kill anyone with outside of drowning one with it. Ice, however, is nearly like firebending in a way. It's precise, and one can find so many ways to kill with it. Impalement, decapitation, inducing hypothermia, massive blood loss, etc. Ice represents death and decay, as most everything tends to die when subjected to it. We've already seen that Katara has pinpoint accuracy with ice ("Lake Laogai"). My point in bring this up is that, if she were to turn "evil", would she use ice exclusively?
What would cause her to change into that? - (Please keep all shipping out of this question. i.e. - "Katara turns to the Fire Nation because Aang rejected her/Zuko wants her to join." Also, not looking for supernatural causes, like Koh possessing her and the like.)
She doesn't have to be working for the Fire Nation, however. She could just roam around like a wraith, preying on innocent folk. I was thinking of going back to her mother's death. Katara could have just been told that her mother died at the hands of the Fire Nation, when really it was another that killed her. Well, why not her own tribe? Kana ran away from an arranged marriage, and you know how the Northern Water Tribe is about their traditions. If they knew she was pregnant at the time, they could have sent an assassin to either kill Kana, or given that she had a child, kill the child. (Of course there's a gap in that theory. Kana's daughter had kids of her own by the time she died, obviously. No idea why they would wait so long.)
Anyway, whatever caused her mother's death could be used as a catalyst by a certain Fire Nation Princess. She would probably know that if Katara were to betray the Avatar, he would be crippled emotionally, and therefore, much easier to capture.
Enough of my deluded ranting, what do you guys think? Remember, she doesn't have to join the Fire Nation/Azula. The point of this topic is to come upon an agreement about what Katara would be like if she turned "evil". Please keep it realistic. I'm looking for feasible answers as to why she would turn evil. Also, remember that one thing isn't going completely change Katara's outlook of life overnight. It would most likely take lots of conditioning for it to happen, and that she probably still wouldn't be completely "evil", as she would probably have many conflicting emotions.
[Edit: I suppose this would be a better topic for the Character forum.. *smacks self on the forehead*]
