Ok, to end this once and for all neither ripped on eachother! The four elements in fantasy related media has been around for years. Lastly, they may have similar ideas but they both use it in their own way so it's not exact plagiarism. Karma! There is no need to curse or make fun of anyone or any show. I believe that elements playing into media has been around quite a while. Naruto uses the chinese base elements, (I believe) as Avatar uses the Greek Based elements. And the puppetmaster was a creepy episode, but I wished it could be scarier. OH well, 30 minute time frame has its flaws. Just a little correction...Naruto's hand signs are based on the Chinese Zodiac, just like real ninjutsu, the ninjutsu is broken down into 18 specific sections and elemental control is not one of them. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying its particularly a bad thing they brought it into the series.

I've got to hand it to this ep for having some awesome animation though. I especially liked the part where Hama did those water nail things, and the battle itself just blew me away. Then there's the writing...
"congratulations Katara, you're a bloodbender"
*que Katara falls and sobs*
It made me get goosebumps!>_<

Oh, of course, my point was just that elemental additions were not necessarily linked (Between the two shows) I believe naruto does use the elements of the chinese zodiac. I'm not saying that in real ninjutsu they have that, because I dunno real ninjutsu xD

Um- Yeah. This is the best chapter of the Third Book, so far. I just wish that it wasn't called: "Blood bending" sounds too... Generic? Well, now we know what the 'secondary' element for water is. But what's Air's? (Water ==> Blood) (Earth ==> Metal) (Fire ==> Lightning) Air ==> )

Well lightning is technically supposed to be the "secondary" element to air, but seeing how real science has no part in this show...

(Water ==> Blood) (Earth ==> Metal) (Fire ==> Lightning) Air ==> ) you forgot ice and vines (since in they are actually waterbenders and they just bend the water in the vines. it still counts though if we are going down this path) (Water ==> Blood, Ice, Vines) (Earth ==> Metal) (Fire ==> Lightning) Air ==> )

well techiniqally, air could bend all of them cause if you look at it scientifically, water contains oxygen, fire needs oxygen and earth too. but either way, watchign the episodes, air doesnt have a "secondary element" like the rest do

Well lightning is technically supposed to be the "secondary" element to air, but seeing how real science has no part in this show... Uh no... Air is all about wind power, how the hell would lightning be a secondary element to air? It's Airbending not Stormbending. This isn't Storm from the X-Men that controls various aspect of weather. Lightning is created by Firebenders through charge separation. And lightning is hot and Firebending is about heat and not just simple fire. well techiniqally, air could bend all of them cause if you look at it scientifically, water contains oxygen, fire needs oxygen and earth too. but either way, watchign the episodes, air doesnt have a "secondary element" like the rest do Who says Airbending is all about oxygen molecules? So far from what we've seen Airbending is all about generating wind current, nothing molecular about it.

Am I the only one who finds the speed with which the characters keep mastering these things a tad ridiculous?
It supposedly took Hama years to master bloodbending, yet Katara learns it in a matter of minutes? Sokka goes from barely being able to hold a sword to beating a master's second in one day? It took Roku twelve years to master three elements and yet Aang has mastered two in under a year? Toph is what 12, 13 and she is supposedly a master earth bender able to easily defeat other benders who have been doing it two or three times longer? It is getting a bit unbelievable, even for a show a show as far out there as Avatar.
Oh well, it is just a show and as such certain things must be ignored for the storyline to fit.
Rant off.

Ummm Katara only held down Hama. When Hama first discovered Bloodbending she just held a rat in place. That's all Katara did to Hama. Hama has precise control over other people, and that's what took her a while to master. And most of the characters we have are prodigies in their respective arts. So no, it's not that unbelievable.

Toph was actually taught by Badger Moles (she said as much in Sokka's master ep) so technique her style is probably closeted to what Oma and Shu used originally. Who knows maybe earthbending as taught by humans became watered down after the centuries.
However, I was disappointed about how fast Sokka was taught. Really Pan Dao just taught Sokka more about how to use his innate talents more actively.
Technically, if you have mastery over something, learning something new using the same techniques should come natrually.
