Dragging this one from the depths...
Ok, now that I know what was cut out of the original version of "The Beach?" I can now say it goes down as the suckiest episode in Avatar history. Makes "Avatar Day" look like freakin' Shakespeare - really.

What was cut from "The Beach"?
Now I'm really curious.
And could it have really made the episode much worse than it already was?

Also, if you go over to ASN's DVD screenshots section, you'll see that more of the destruction of Chan, Jr.'s house is shown. In the broadcast version all you see is Chan opening the door, then Ty Lee swinging on the rafters, and the stylized shot at the end. In the DVD version, you see Zuko sneering at Chan (apparently announcing "party's over!"), then you see him break a table in half with a karate kick, spilling the food all over the place. Mai busts out with her knives and cuts a whole bunch of tapestries in half. Ty Lee's swinging around is in there in its entirety. Ugh, just ugh. If that episode was supposed to make me more sympathetic to the characters it did just the opposite.

The one episode Ty Lee has appeared in so far is just stupid fanservice... Hey it was WORTH IT. I enjoyed every second of staring at her. ... ... *shot*

I know!
I thought Ty Lee and Mai were supposed to be more important this season! So far Mai's only been seen sucking face and spouting cheesy OOC dialogue with Zuko, while Ty Lee has dissappeared off the face of the (Avatar) Earth!
And when we finally see Ty Lee, the entire episode was not only fanservice, but OOC, poorly written fanservice...
Because nothing says "We're just normal teens in a time of war. Relate to us!" like torching a guy's house.

Maybe Ty Lee is in a "Jamie Lynn" Situation Hah we should discuss this in the Ty Lee thread. If she is. I'll go mad and i'll strap a bomb to my body and run into Nick studios and blow the whole place up along with me .

pg15 - huh, that's weird - I didn't see it in mine. Though I saw it in a re-broadcast... maybe they cut it for time? Now I'm really confused. Ah well, then it turns out I was the only one who didn't see it the first time around! So I guess this "new to me" info isn't really new to anyone. I'm so embarrassed - sorry, guys! Though my opinion on "The Beach" as a whole stands. And where the heck *is* Ty Lee? Did she ever take the boat back to the Fire Nation capitol?

Actually, I don't remember seeing them actually trash the house either. Even without knowing what you've described this epi took the top spot on my 'worst' list.
And after DoBS it really seems like a whiplash/WTF?/why? episode.

I knew they trashed the house. It was implied that was their goal in the episode, but I didn't actually see what lu described. I'm glad I didn't. The whole thing was bad enough as it was.
