I doubt that'll be the title in the American release. I would imagine they just trademarked "Legend of Korra" for the European production, to fit in with "Legend of Aang." The American title would probably be something different. Although that's just me guessing. I could be completely wrong.
First impression from the name "Korra" is that it sounds like a water-tribe name, and it sounds female. That's just first impression though, in Avaverse a name ending in the letter "a" has not been indicative of any gender in the past. It might not even end up being the name of a person (although it probably will be.)
Personally I'm hoping it will not be set in the same timeframe as the original series, so it will be able to develop its own moderately different setting, and won't be able to use established concepts and characters as a crutch. Also hoping the main character is female, not an airbender, and not the avatar. Also that Bryke will once again head the production, but that goes without saying.

I'm still wary of this actually happening. -_- I'm trying not to get my hopes up in case this falls through. My first instinct was that Korra is the next Avatar - a female waterbender. Of course it could be anything else, but it's kind of impossible to predict at this point. I also hope that it doesn't hang onto the same storyline. Like if Korra is one of Katara and Aang's children, I don't think I can handle it. :-P That Kataang ending was more than enough Kataang. If Korra is the next Avatar, I'll like if they have Aang be her guide like Roku was to Aang. It'll be nice for the series to have some connection to its predecessor, but not too much. This way, spirit Aang can give the audience tidbits about the rest of the gAang's lives without focusing on the same characters. Or maybe Korra is Zuko and Katara's love child? ;D

First of all, wow its been almost 2 years since I've posted. Great to be back...and I still see many familiar names. Or maybe Korra is Zuko and Katara's love child? ;D ^ No. No. No. Korra had better not be anybody's lovechild from the previous series. I want something brand new with little or no connection to the previous series minus the setting. I don't really mind if Korra is an Avatar, but I would find it more interesting if he/she wasn't. However, "Avatar" is in the title so one is going to be prominently present regardless. I hope it's a girl! ;D

I have forgotten so many people on this site. @hana I think the "Avatar" title is there so that fans know it is tied into the Avatar universe.

HA I forgot I posted that but I still love it! I bet she is the Avatar because of the Avatar in the title. Sure it's there so we know that it's a continuation of the series, but it just seems right for the lead to be the Avatar. I've always found main characters to be less interesting than the more minor ones, so she (assuming Korra is a girl....and a person) probably won't be one of my favorites anyways.

It's been forever since I've been active on these forums, but if Avatar: The Legend of Korra becomes a big hit, I'll definitely become more active again. I kind of miss this place. :3 Because I'm an obsessive nerd, here is all I could find from searching "Korra" on Google: -It's the name of a village in Tibet. -It's an Australian aboriginal name meaning "grass," or if spelled "Kora", it means "companion" -If spelled "Kora," it could also be a name of Greek origin that means "maiden." -It's also an Irish name meaning "from the mountain valley" So I guess that's all we have to speculate on for a while.

I'm only supporting it, well, just because I miss the fandom. Unfortunately (in my own option) Nickelodeon has done only junkie shows since the end of ATLA. So, I'm not ready to be excited yet. Besides, speculation during hiatuses is what makes us such big avatards! XD

I think the series may take place in modern times or even further. I dunno what the plot would be but at least the events of Avatar would provide backstory without it being necessary for newcomers to watch.

This is exciting news, it brings something new to the fandom. Of course nothing is definite, but it is always fun to speculate. I think that there is so much of the Avatar world that was unexplored, that would be completely new to this series. And I'm sure that if Mike and Bryan are working on it, that they will come up with a great new story. I think it needs to be set somewhat before or after Aang's story, but I would still like to see something of the characters, even if it is just a mention. I'm going to remain optimistic that Nick isn't just trying to ride the movie hype and make a new series, that will undermine the quality of Avatar.

Great news. I think Korra will be the first Avatar from the Water Tribe.

My guess is that it's the Water Tribe Avatar, the one directly after Aang. Odds are, IMO, that it'd be a sequel series too. This way we could have a new main cast of characters, yet still possibly have some guest appearances from old Gaang members!

Hey all. Lots of great thoughts and impressions. Personally I'm just happy at the idea that we're going to see more of this world we've come to know and love. I love the thought that Korra is the next female waterbending avatar, but no matter what, I'm excited to see more. I also love the idea of all-new characters.

If they ever recontinued A:TLA, I would prefer it to be with the same characters as before. I don't know, I just love the Gaang so much that Avatar would be really wierd without them. It does, however, sound like Korra will be the next Avatar after Aang. In which case, I hope old Gaang members don't show up, because they'll be old and wrinkly. Unless Aang dies in his 20s or 30s or something.

I've been reading old interviews and such, and found/remembered that back in summer 2007 it was announced that Nickelodeon had signed on for three more seasons of Avatar, for a total of six. Since Mike and Bryan always said that the current Avatar show was only going to be three seasons long, perhaps this Legend of Korra series is for those remaining 3 seasons, assuming the contract hasn't changed?
