Forum Revamp?

Yay, objections. I hate when Suggestion threads don't receive any attention, lulz.

You all made really good points though, and I see where Jade is coming at with DH being an Avatar forum first. I understand your points completely, though I tend to favor the suggested arrangement. We still intend to keep the Avatar category at the top (which I've always liked, it shows that we are first and foremost an Avatar forum, like you stated). I would eventually like to see some sort of a movie-specific board though, for spoilers, theories etc. about them. Perhaps there can be subboards to the Movie Board? Just throwing ideas out there. ^^;

I'm thinking that we should have a poll for some of these, and see what the forum says. It is their forum, too, and perhaps they would be more likely to vote in a poll than post a lengthy post in suggestions. xD

I'm not really sure how I feel about all of the suggestions.....there are so many options and I'm a bit confused to be honest. But I do like the idea of a Movie board. Maybe not now, but when there is actually more about the movie.

And a poll for this would be good because of what night said. XD

I'm cool with all of but merging the creations together, I'd hate to have to look through a whole bunch of avatar pics to find the non avatar ones, and I think it would be to cluttered, also i think theories should be kept too. just cuz the show is over doesnt mean we cant make up our own outcomes of the series.

Honestly, I don't see a need to merge or change anything. Its not like any of the boards are innactive or anything, so I don't see a real need to change anything. The only thing that I could think might happen would be the TAG thing but that would be a very long process by nature.

And I honestly like the RP boards just screwing up everything in the middle. I think it adds an odd symmetry to the board and it makes laugh.

GH likes having the RP boards in the middle of the Distant Horizon and DH Forum categories.

It's been a bit of a pet peeve of mine for a while, though. Lulz.

I myself can't see ALL of these happening, but the spoilers should be inactive... I mean.

The series is over. What's to be spoiled? ;;

The RP boards annoys me because I'm sorta OCD. :/

On a serious note, combining categories isn't a huge deal at all. It takes what, 5, maybe 6 mouse movements in the admin panel and BOOM, we have a streamlined better looking forum. It takes practically no effort and results in a better look.

Granted things have been this way for a long time but the reasoning "WELL IF IT'S BEEN KLUNKY AND UGLY FOREVER AND NO ONE CARED WHY TRY TO STREAMLINE AND IMPROVE IT?" is pretty disgustingly lazy.

And godhunter, saying you want to keep boards that, you admit yourself, screw up the symetry of the forum because you "like them like that" doesn't speak volumes about your interest or knowledge about the physical look of the forum.

I have to agree with Grandi here. I have prior experience using the Admin Panel, and it takes no time at all to combine the categories. Simply move all of the boards (there are what, four?) from one to the other, and rename it if you wish. The process would take a few minutes at most. Theres no harm in doing it, and our intentions are only to improve the forum.

A little stream lining, I can see that, but honestly, I would not start re doing the whole forum. Though I never quiet got DH/ Distant Horizon difference...I lived with it for this long, it's not going to kill me in the future. At least I can find most boards blind folded.

Yes I know that it wouldn't take all that long and yes I know that its not entirely complicated. I do however think that the forum would look better the way it stands now as opposed to combining the sections. I referred to the RP boards 'screwing up everything in the middle' because that is how it was looked at by the people who don't like its placement. In all honesty I think that they work very well with their current placement.

If you look at the current forum layout you'll notice that we have the avatar and general discussion boards at the top and the bottom. Then the two DH sections are the second from the top and the second from the bottom with the RP boards sitting in the middle. It gives the forum a structure and symmetry that would not exist if you combined the boards, and I personally happen to like that symmetry. Also if you look at what is actually in the DH categories you'll notice that the boards that people are more likely to respond to (DHgen, Suggestions, Contests) are in one section while the other section is more geared toward less discussion based topics (SB, Trash, Welcome). It might not be a bad idea to switch the Legendary and Questions sections, but I think that they way they are grouped makes a whole lot more sense than changing them around to make the forum look smaller.

I don't really care if you don't agree with me, but to belittle me by calling me lazy and saying I have no sense is something I'm not gonna sit quiet about. If you disagree with me, fine. State your case and listen to mine. To blow of the other side of a debate without so much as considering it coupled with condescending comments doesn't exactly sound like the best idea in the world.

The idea has been taken to the staff board and rest assured that this thread will be kept up to date with any updates, and know that if its decided that the change will help than we'll do it. I don't see the merit however of altering the existing layout that hasn't had problems since the beginning without seriously looking at it.

The main conflict here seems to be our personal opinions, rather than what is best for the forum, or what they even want. Again, I propose a poll. We could see what side the forum is on, and if they have a problem with the current layout (because not many people look in suggestions, or post here for that matter).
