I think night was just using those as example since they were they were prominent events that occurred recently =P I think we've made progress in combining the feminine and masculine threads however I feel that one of the problems that some members feel is that while certain members may have posted exclusively in one of the Off topic threads, I don't think that number was really that high. When I looked at the threads, I saw a majority of the same people posting on each and I feel that having four chat threads wasn't really necessary to begin with. They didn't start that way but that's how things developed and it's just easier to have fewer off topic threads both to moderate and to look through. Besides, combining threads can allow you to meet new people and meet new friends ^_^ Ah, but if almost everybody posts in the same 4 threads, and especially on a close knit community like DH, the new friends probably won't happen. Sorry to be Mr. Pessimist. And further, trying to cram the prolific chat that is the manly/feminine threads into one will probably raise the spam level.

Hehe, that wasn't really what I meant by 'limits'. Of course the rules are still enforced, but the idea of keeping to a strict topic of conversation isn't. The conversation can go anywhere (within the rules and ToS), and I meant to say that because of it, arguments are more likely to spring up.
By its nature, CT is more likely to cause arguments. Like I said, I wouldn't have a problem with the threads being separate, and I don't have a problem with them being merged. I don't feel that keeping them merged is a big deal, but it's obvious that others do, and that deserves to be taken into account. =)

@bb - I'm glad to hear that the staff will be discussing this issue. My point wasn't that more action be taken, but that it be considered and discussed as a possibility.
@historyman - Night's point was that the same people tend to post in all the threads, and the info you posted just helps prove her point. If one doesn't post equally in all the threads it's irrelevant since they still have posted in nearly all of them. As for the Harem being a "closed" thread, anyone can post in any thread. There aren't "member's only" threads and if you see it as a closed thread it is only because that's how you choose to see it.
@everyone else -- My interest in this issue is not based on modding, although that certainly is a factor as I can see from others' posts. I'm not a mod or staff so I don't know what it entails. However, I am looking at this issue from the point of view of a member of DH who's activity has decreased because of the number of repeat threads. I used to be very active on the OGB, but the number of chat threads with no real discussion topic discourage me from wanting to post there. Yes, I know that there are still other threads, but quite frankly those threads are never very active, the most recent posts usually being from a few days ago, and I don't see the point in posting where it will probably be ignored.
Now that I've said that, I think this discussion should be closed, since the same arguments are being thrown around again and again and it seems that no one really has anything new to add and it's just causing arguments. Nevertheless, I believe this discussion should be opened among the staff so that they can all discuss this matter now that they've seen the POV's of the members.

The fact there has been 1 argument doesn't justify that these threads are likely to cause conflict... In normal conversation ppl talk about all different things these topics we discuss in these threads are not random... varied but everyone adds to them and there is little spam these days..... Some but little ...
It is just better to trash these threads on someone's whim...
I don't like this combined thread... Mixing the two is not a good idea... the fimine thread always kept to femine things and things girls like and the manly thread disscussed manly matters and things men like....

That does not justify why they shud be merged..... So what if they hav similar audiences...
This has been done one a whim... The ppl who hav issues with these threads barely ever post there so why care...
Why spoil it for the rest of us....
It was not a problem b4... it only has become one now because certain ppl hav made it their business to make a problem out of nothing

They were not hurting anyone why is it a problem now when it never has been b4.... Those threads often are left for ages... It's only recently that the manly thread has become active again.. And the hareem is not massively active at the moment either.... This whole thrashing business is petty
Plenty of ppl besides those on that list join in..... They are just the top posters statistically speaking u cannot justify ne thing based on such a tiny sample....

i think its important to keep in mind that I've seen a similar argument come up for CT. We can't force quality. We can prevent spam and remove repeat topics, and even encourage high quality discussion but we can't force people to post a certain way. if somethings not spam, not a repeat, not offensive, or other wise we have no control over what they post.
And I agree this thread will be locked and left for staff reference until further notice.
The staff will let everyone know what decision we come to. It will be posted here so everyone will be able to easily find.
Until then all threads will remain as they are now.
No prob shockie....
