Notrly. It sometimes get bitchy to carry, but carrying the bass is 962604629x worse. At least it isn't heavy though. The cello is so light compared to my bari. Cello gets sexy music. :3

Just like any other instrument? Violin is exceptionally bad. As for learning the instrument, I'd suggest staying away from violin. Many people tend to play violin, so theres more competition. If you still want to go for something small, pick viola. It almost feels like a violin, but theres far less competition with it, and the parts are generally easier ;D. Erm... I like the violin. It has a lot of great music and even though a lot of people play the violin *coughlikesteryeotypicalaasiakemeough* it doesn't meant there's more competition. Viola music almost always is under appreciated and because of that they have... well... boring music that is really simple. Viola may have less competition but I don't really think it's that fun to play unless you are good at it and are able to play the funner viola pieces.

Big is good if you don't mind the size and the fact that your part might not be as interesting. Though if you play through school, most large instruments you are able to rent, so you don't have to purchase the instrument.

I tried guitar...and it didn't quite work. At all. I haven't played cello for years, so playing a string instrument again was quite hard, and the position was all weird. It doesn't help that I'm a woodwind player...

I youtubed a couple of her videos, and indeed, she does rock. I learned guitar when I was 11, and continued practicing ever since. I like electric guitars, but I don't see myself investing in one. I keep my confy acoustic just fine without economic remorse.

Ok, so I voted for violin just because I play it, but I think each instrument has a pro and con violinpros[/b] - the melody of the group - lightest instrument [weight-wise] - smallest, which helps if you have small hands. - it's in treble clef, which was a pro for me because I was a piano player first♥ - in my orchestra, the violins have the best parts, but not all orchestras are the same cons - a lot of competition because it's the most popular - IMO, it sounds EXTRA gross if you don't play it well because it's so high pitched and stuff. violapros[/b] - it has a nice deep sound, right in between a violin and cello - if you prefer a lower sound over the violin, it's easier to carry around then the cello cons - totally different clef. - bigger in size - sometimes is overlooked cellopros[/b] - deep GORGEOUS sound - in the bass clef - this SONG♥. I got to see Mark Summer play it live too when he came to my high school. :] cons - big. I would hate having to carry it everywhere - I find the fingering more confusing, but I'm sure if you started playing it, you wouldn't :] basspros[/b] - you can have a lot of fun with it; there's always jazz - if you don't like being in the spotlight (which no one in an orch. is ever, really), you're sort of in the background adding on. cons - even BIGGER then the cello - they get the most simple parts in the orchestra [boctaoe]; some of my friends said it got boring sometimes - thickest strings. - not exactly the most prominent instrument I say...by a 5-string violin/viola so you can play both. hahaha

Too bad bass is the most over-played, over-rated instrument. Only a few bassists really play the bass guitar beyond basic walking lines and guitar supplements. Don't forget the ukelele or the mandolin. Pick an instrument that everyone doesn't already play.
