Fanfiction Contest Rules:
Yes, we’re trying to get the fanfiction contest started back up again, but we need your help!
You are out to write:
1) a one-shot. i.e., something also known as a drabble, a piece of writing that will not be continued past its last sentence.
2) Something rated no more than PG-13. Keep it clean and mature (in being crude, etc.) everyone; remember the rules of this forum and how they apply to the various contests you can participate in here.
3) Something new. DO NOT REPOST OLD ONE-SHOTS, PLEASE. (Or they’ll have to be disqualified, sorry D:) We’d like to see new and refreshing ideas!
4) Something original. It goes without saying almost that the work should be your own.
5) An Avatar related piece of work (*NEW*) between 100-1000 words. The voting will now also be in one poll; it is now one contest. If you need a word-counter, you may find one here.
6) Using a prompt, something you will base your drabble off of, not just mentioning it in passing. For this contest, we will be having different types of prompts. These will be anything from one specific word, to a line/quote said by a character in Avatar, or even a specific character or setting for you to base your one-shot off of.
7) Anonymously. No posting your drabble elsewhere until the winners are announced, please. (Just like in the icontests here) If they are posted beforehand, then they will be disqualified.
Here’s a few last things to keep in mind before we get started:
• The contests will be run BIWEEKLY, giving everyone a chance to think and write their entry.
• I will issue your prompt on Friday of that week; you will have until the week after the next Thursday (2 weeks basically) to get your drabbles in. (PM them to me with the title “Fanfiction Contest #__”) I will then post the drabbles on an empty LJ account on Friday and will link them here in a voting thread, so you can open them up side by side and judge them accordingly.
• The prompt for the next week’s contest will be posted in the original thread here like in the icontests, it being posted the same time the voting is going on for the previous week’s contest (on Friday) so people still have a week to get entries in but that there also isn’t space in between the contests, getting the schedule out of whack.
• We will now be just using a regular poll for voting; people may post their opinions in the thread if they want to--it's just easier, and we'll probably get more anonoymous people to vote this way.....
• Voting will be up from Friday until Sunday night, Monday morning at the latest. (A post by me will tell you when the voting is closed for that specific contest)
• Votes will be tallied and winners announced on Tuesday. Winners will each get a banner by me, or a designated banner maker. (There will always be 1st place; but there will also be a 2nd place if there are 10+ entries, 3rd place if there are 15+ entries)
*Last note: feel free to interpret the prompts however you like, whether it be the green of sickness or the green of jealousy, whether it be of the humor genre or of the angst genre UNLESS you are specifically told otherwise in the prompt.
Finally, to the prompt!
Week #7: The Nightmare. Whether literally or metaphorically, be sure to include the idea of a nightmare (or more than one even) in your entry.

*EDIT: REMEMBER THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE:
No entries containing spoilers for WAT or TFM until they air in the U.S. (Which currently is a mystery as to the WHEN part) I got an entry that contains WAT spoilers weeks ago...but that was before this rule (It was when we all thought WAT was going to air in the U.S., so I allowed it) so I'm going to allow the entry....but please don't post spoilers in your entries!
You may speculate on the future---but avoid mentioning/using ideas from WAT or TFM. Thank you.
