HP 7 was giant dissapointment....to me it seemed like I was reading a 500+ page fanfic. I actually like Darren Shan's books. Once I get into the actual plot its quite enjoyable. Back to books I don't like....Red Dragon. Sorry Hannibal Lector but your author bored me, the pacing was just so freakin' slow for me.

I am so glad other people don't like Romeo & Juliet! I have tried so hard to like that play. I loved Hamlet, liked Macbeth, and laughed at Twelfth Night, and still I cannot help but loathe the bard's most cherished work. I really, sincerely wanted to like it, but it just seems so trite and cliche. What turned dislike into deep and utter hatred for me was reading Antigone by Sophocles. Here was a play written hundreds, perhaps even 1,000 years before R+J, and containing so many of the same plot features. (Basically, the whole forbidden romance/double suicide thing.) When I was in school, R+J was touted as a wonderful love story, with a unique plot, that so many authors had borrowed from. But it's not original at all, and there's nothing wonderful about it, in my opinion.
Note: For anyone who does really love R+J, I don't mean to ruin it for you. I'm glad you enjoy it, I just wish I did too.....

The Inheritance Trilogy isn't that bad actually. Yeah, it could've used a bit more work and editing, but not bad for a fantasy story about a boy and a dragon (Cliched as the theme may be).
Where did you hear about Paolini writing the third book with a quill? Is it like the quill handwriting font on the computer or is he actually going to write with a quill and inkwell?
Let's see....Books I hate?
"Romeo and Juliet". Sure, the play made it painfully clear to us that the two loved each other, but we did not actually get to feel attatched to them. It was like we see two kids, they love each other, and in less than a week, they are already planning to marry each other and before anyone knows it, they're dead.

So many of my friends love Pride and Prejudice, but I can't even get past the first few pages. I want to force every female character into a mandatory feminist boot camp, and then send them back in time to revolutionize society. I realize that looking to marry men for thier money was essentially the only socially acceptable alternative that these women had, but I cannot understand why people would have an interest in reading about such a repressive society today. And just how is it romantic, exactly? The fact that the main character eventually decides she loves Darcy doesn't change the fact she was still selling herself off to the highest bidder. So she happened to fall in love with her wealthiest suitor - how wonderful for her! What about the millions of other women who weren't so lucky?

^I love Pride and Prejudice. I think the fact that she refused Mr. Collins shows she wasn't just going for the highest bidder. She actually cared about who she ended up with, it seemed like to me. Whatever, though, to each their own. Okay, now onto the book I dislike. One of my friend *loves* vampire books, so she reads them 24/7 and highly reccomended a series called the "House of Night" series. The books are "Marked" and "Betrayed." My God, they were terrible. The main character is one of the biggest Mary Sues I have ever read (scored a 109 on that Mary-Sue checklist thingy: www.springhole.net/quizzes/marysue.htm ). I've ranted about this elsewhere, so I'm not going to go into detail, but I really, really regret reading the book. >.<

Sorry bagpipe. My inner feminist crusader gets away from me at times... Like I said about Romeo and Juliet, even if I don't like Pride and Prejudice, I'm glad there are people out there who do enjoy it....
Lots of people dislike Tale of Two Cities, and it's one of my faves!
EDIT: BTW, karma for the Mary Sue link. I got a score of 11! YAY!

Lots of people dislike Tale of Two Cities, and it's one of my faves! I've read Tale of Two Cities. I like that story. But I'll tell you one I don't like: Catcher in the Rye. It's boring, for one thing, I don't discern any real plot, and it's taking place in the 1950's, which I find to be a very boring time period. Other people may like it, and more power to them, but it's not for me.

I don't really like the Terry Practchett series... because I'm not a greart reader and I found them difficult to follow and I just didn't know what was going on.....And I really don't like the Jaquilene Wilson series.... especially Tracey Beaker..... They just aggrivate me...
Btw I LOVE Pride and Predudice big time (although Kiera Nightly murdered Lizzie Bennet Jennifer elley was much better)........ I wouldn't say Lizzie was selling herself to the highest bidder at all... AFter u get past Darcy's outer shell he seems really kind and generous inside... If she married Mr Collins she wud've been marrying an ideot who is just Lady Catherines puppet....

Seriously, all the people I know that read vampire books read a new one like every other day. And they dress all emo and are obsessed with Sweeney Todd. It's like, how much more stereotypical do you have to make yourself? God, it's so annoying!!!!

^ Ugh, the Scarlet Letter. The beginning wasn't that bad but then it got really boring and the ending made me so mad!!!! After reading the last line, I remember saying, "That's it?!"

Left Behind: The Kids.
'Nuff said.
Inheritance is stupid, it's as if the author has no imagination at ALL.
Or writing ability.

Heart of Darkness.
I understand how people love it, and how it's considered a classic/masterpiece/etc, because it is a great novel.
I just found it incredibly boring. I'm not one of those people with gnatlike attention spans who couldn't finish Lord of the Flies or some s***, but this truly is a very dull and slow book. I was unable to enjoy it.
