I particularly dislike The Catcher in The Rye. Could that book have been any more boring?

Definitely the Inheiritance Trilogy. Seriously. What a rip-off!
I also hated Little Women. It's the only book I ever feel asleep reading.

It seems all the classics are boring. People back in the day must have taken whatever they got.

They probably had longer attention spans because they weren't distracted by tv/radio/internet.
Also, a lot of readers were women back then, and women weren't really supposed to do much but sit around the house and read anyway.

Well, I'm not sure a lot of women actually read in those time. What we have as classis are the successful books of those times: maybe some good work have been lost. By judging the quality of our actual book production I have no doubt our grandchildren would feel the same about our books. Anyway, I don't think all the classics are bad. There's a lot of genres in them, and with some patience, and if we just don't stop at what teachers or society want us to know, we could find some excellent books. Pick a classic author, and look for his less known books or look at his friends, sometimes it paid.

I liked Little Women ^^; It made me cry, actually. I'm pretty open to classic literature. SOmetimes it takes me a while to really latch on to the story but usually once I get into it, I really enjoy it. The style differences between then and now are really apparent though.
I detest Karen Hesse books. 'Nuff said.

I mean, WTF was with Romeo and Juliet? They married after knowing each other for one day!!!! It didn't seem like a true love story. It's only in the movies where they actually express it (SEX).

Well, I didn't read Romeo and Juliet (not yet at least), so I really cannot add that to my opinion of Shakespeare, but I've read Macbeth, Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Night's Dream and have really liked all of those after the initial hardships with the language, so.... *shrugs* I just think the language is really beautiful and Shakespeare has an interesting sense of humor once you actually get what he is saying. XD Plus the themes and ideas of the plays/novels are very relevent to even today, and are very interesting to talk/debate about even now. :3

We all know men have hidden desires portrayed through their work. XDXDXD
I heard that Shakespeare was gay, though. Maybe that's why R&J sucked so much; he only knows guy/guy relationships!!! The nurse and the friar made such a better couple than R & J.

The nurse and the friar made such a better couple than R & J. Heh, I like that logic. I dunno, I like Shakespeare because it's just so quirky and a lot of times seems so overplayed. But maybe that's because of the language. The only one of his plays that I read I didn't like was R+J...maybe because the only plot was that shitty romance. I mean, yes avatar has romance...and people get weird about it...but at least it's not the whole dang plot!
