Okay, so not having PoR didn't affect ME at all. Good supports are definitely a good idea, too. Ending-changing ones are fun, but there's not a lot of those in Radiant Dawn. Three, I think. Without PoR. I still say it's a better idea to play PoR first to get to know everybody who returns in RD from that game. But that's just my opinion. We agree to disagree. And on the subject of supports, I just today saw Ike and Soren's B-level support conversation in PoR and I gotta say, I actually feel sorry for Soren. I mean, the woman who took care of him wasn't his real mother and she didn't like him at all. A dying sage basically bought him from that woman when he was four, and after he turned six and the sage died, he left the old man's hovel for help, but he couldn't speak! The sage was just using him to ensure his techniques survived, and neither of them loved him. To top it all off, neither the woman nor the sage taught him how to speak. That's just too much. Kinda makes me appreciate him more, seeing as I use him more than Ilyana, Tormod, and Callil combined, but not Bastian, whom I use more than them, but still less than Soren. And about having a balanced team, if there's truly as much Bonus XP to be had as I read, then having everyone who can change class go 20/20/20 shouldn't be a problem (weapon proficiencies is another story), especially if you play on Easy, when it's possible for a high level character to change class and gain a few more levels in a single stage, like Brom in the game I'm playing now, he started Chapter 17, Stage 1 as a level 13 Knight, but by Stage 3, he was already a level 3 General with Defense as high as it can go at that point without using Dracoshields. It's all the additional XP they get, especially Astrid, who, with her Paragon skill, gains 100 XP per kill, but getting her to a point where she does enough damage and attacks twice is a pain, even when you forge special bows for her. Low Strength is low, and her similarly low level only hinders her progress further at this point, even if she does gain Skill and Speed at every level... Oh, well. When I finish Chapter 17, Stage 4, I should have a good amount of money as well as Bonus XP to play with. Not to mention Ike FINALLY changes class and can work on his stats again.

Yeah, there's a LOT of Bonus Exp on easy. It's so helpful when you're in a jam, expecially near the end when you get Sanaki. Bonus her up a few levels before you start and she's pretty good. Don't, and she'll probably die.

Yeah, there's a LOT of Bonus Exp on easy. It's so helpful when you're in a jam, expecially near the end when you get Sanaki. Bonus her up a few levels before you start and she's pretty good. Don't, and she'll probably die. Now that I think about it, though, even if you do bump someone all the way up with just Bonus XP, if their Speed, primary attacking stat, and Skill all maxed by or before third-tier level 20th, I suppose they'd be killing even with Iron or Steel weapons or lower-level spells like Fire or Wind. But what gets me is that Iron Axes and Steel Axes are both E-level weapons, but Silver Axes are A-level, with little, barring Killer Axes, between them, whereas Steel Swords and Steel Lances are C- or D-level weapons, while their Iron cousins are E-level. That never made any sense to me. Why should axe-wielders get a stronger weapon sooner? And to make things even more lop-sided, Steel Axes are available throughout the entire game in most Fire Emblem titles. Not that it really matters, seeing as how most axe-wielders require a high Skill score because axes don't afford too much in the hit department until you get your Killer Axes and Silver Axes and the like, unless you forge one to have a better hit bonus.

Yeah, that really doesn't make sense. And, overall, axe people are stronger anyway, so shouldn't they get the better weapons last?

I don't remember. I need to play that game again soon. ~Sanaki~Really? Before, it's always been E-D-C-B-A-S. E-C-A-S-SS, now that's just weird. No, here's a shocker. Soren and Ike's A-level Support Conversation in PoR? It's revealed that Soren is actually half-human and half-laguz! Yeah, and people from such relationships aren't welcome among either race. As a matter of fact, they bear a mark that tells all of either race what they are and are treated worse than dirt, apparently.

Well, being half-human and half-laguz is a big deal in PoR, not that I suspect it was mentioned outside of Soren and Ike's A-level support conversation, although, I do know it wasn't mentioned as part of the main game. The old sage who taught Soren magic, it's revealed in Ike and his A-level support conversation, thought he was a Spirit Charmer, spellcasters who allow spirits into their bodies and are allowed by the spirits to make use of their powers, for a price. What that price may be, I don't know, they didn't say.

In each of the other Fire Emblem games, each of the people had specific other people that they could have conversations with, and not all of them were ones that altered the course of the game or what happened to them in the endgame. Unless I'm reading your statement wrongly. Like Canas in the first U.S. Fire Emblem. You couldn't get him if you didn't accept the particular side quest, and even if you did and he had an A-rank support level with Nino, whom I suspect they are uncle and niece, he still dies trying to save his village, sending his son to live with his ancient grandmother.

Well, yeah, not everyone was compatible and had an ending-changing relationship, but it was definitely a lot more than RD. In RD, there's, like, four or five supports than change the ending of the game (without PoR interference).
But, in all the other games (excluding PoR - don't have it, never played it) each person has a list of like, four or five people they can end up married to, and about three more that change the ending in another way. Quite the variety.
In Sacred Stones, for example, Princess Eirika could end up married to Seth (my personal choice - knight and Princess pairings are romantic), Innes, Forde (well, it doesn't say specifically that they wed, but they had a romance), and Saleh. As well as having an ending-changing friendship with her brother or Tana. (In the Japanese version, I've heard, you can actually make Eirika and Ephriam marry each other).
So, for her, that's six different options.
In RD, if Micaiah has an A support with anyone other than Sothe, the ending doesn't change. (You actually have to erase their support in order to prove it).

Oh, I hardly use Seth after a certain point in the game. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I dislike characters who start out with their classes changed, though if there's a third tier, then I guess they're not so bad anymore. I mean, I like characters to have the skills they use the most be maxed. Is max Strength and Skill for a Warrior too much to ask? Or max Defense and Skill for a General? Or max Magic, Skill, Speed, and Resistance for a Sage? I should say not.
Although, I do like support conversations in any capacity. Characters have a better chance of doing something, such as dodging or hitting, than if they were alone, regardless of what happens to them in the endgame if who they were paired up altered their destiny. For example, I don't know what happens to Joshua and Natasha in The Sacred Stones if they have supports with other people because I only ever pair them up with each other. Natasha most notably gets a slightly better chance to dodge in a fight if I'm remembering correctly.

We have a new game to look forward to this year. The DS game - Shadow Dragon - is coming out "sometime in 2009". It's the remake of Marth's story, and, from what I can tell, it's pretty good. The only thing I don't like is, at one point early in the game, you're FORCED to sacrifice one of your characters. Ugh. I hate losing them. And, then, there's more characters that you can only get if you have less than 15 characters alive after certain levels. I'll probably never do those. I'm the person who will replay a mission a dozen times to keep everyone alive.

I'm the person who will replay a mission a dozen times to keep everyone alive. According to Amazon.com, Fire Emblem DS as I'm going to call it, is due out on the 16th of this month. I'm trying to decide if the selfish thing I do with my unemployment money is to wait until the 16th and order that or go ahead and buy Radiant Dawn. The third option I'm mulling is buying both on the 16th if a third-party seller on Amazon has it for a decent enough price as to buy both and still have over $200 remaining after buying some socks and pants and then the games. I suppose I could drop that amount to $150, but I'd have to not buy anything more afterward until I start getting more unemployment money. Which reminds me, I'll need to be checking around then for Action Replay codes for Shadow Dragon. Who knows? Maybe with AR there'll be a way to have everybody and not actually sacrifice anyone. I'll keep y'all posted. And I need one of those Power Save SD Memory Cards that Datel makes for Wii games, see if there's anything like what I was running on Path of Radiance, but for Radiant Dawn on there... Ah, but that's where a job comes in. And now that I've mentioned Action Replay... I've reminded myself that I need to be updating mine with the codes for a number of other games, too. Seriously, though. What's the point of having certain characters if you're supposed to let them die?! I mean, if you're only supposed to get certain characters by having less than a certain number at a certain point, then make the ones most likely to be sacrificed by players NPCs who meet their end in a cutscene or neutral and non-recruitable characters who go their own way after the particular level. Like Matthew's girl Leila in the first one. She had potential as a PC, but rather than have her be playable and make the player decide if they should let her die or someone else, they went and had her go do her own thing, then meet her demise in a cutscene and let the players discover her fate a short time later. What's wrong with that? It worked once, so why doesn't it work again? Honestly.

The sixteenth? That's two weeks away! Wow. Guess my sources were kinda old...
Yeah. I'm not going to enjoy having to pick a character to kill off. Luckily it's in the prologue, so you only have, like, four to pick from. Apparently it's hinted that it should be the overleveled paladin. And you are given a "one life regained" thing later on... way later... so you can at least get the guy back, but it's so far back in the game that, honestly, he would be useless. I read an entire FAQ for the game today, out of boredom. It seems pretty interesting. Plus I like the name....

Anywho... I wanted to keep Leila!!! She looked butt-kickin and I wanted to use her, have her and Matthew get an A support, and them get married! I was so depressed when she died. But, yeah, I do kinda agree with that method more than me having to choose. I fall in love with all of the characters in their own special way and I never let them die. RD was hard. I counted. There was almost 70 characters in the end... and all of the ones I managed to recruit - I was missing some half-laguz guy and one other, I think - were still alive. It was hard, but I managed it! Twice!
Now I want them to remake Roy's game. Especially so I can see old Eliwood and Hector. And so I can have Hector's little girl whose name escapes me and Roy end up together. It'd be cute.
Other than that, I wonder what new plotline they'll come up with next. Hopefully something interesting. Another Wii game would be nice.
