If any of you are updated with Tokyopop manga, you'll know that they are introducing American manga artists. What do you think of American manga? Personally, some of these artists could do better. I mean, how is this anime style? Atomic King DaidoganAnd maybe they'll do anime style, but they totally mess it up. I'm not fond of American manga artists. There are a few out there that are wonderful, but not many.

Most American anime/manga isn't the most attractive to me....
But a select few do appeal to me.
Megatokyo (I don't know the creator) was prettty good...
Jen Quick Lee (creator of Off*beat) is also a pretty good artist.

I hold American made manga to the same standards I hold Japanese made manga, by the quality and aesthetic of the story and art. Does the story intrigue me and is it well written? Is the art pretty and is it clear and communicative? I’ve seen good and bad by both groups.
I don’t think the cultural gap is close enough for a majority of American comic artists to do true manga. I’ve read enough on the subject to know there’s more to it than drawing big-eyed characters and super-powered up fight scenes. They try and get the “look” but don’t quite match the “feel”. It would be the same if Japanese artists tried to make American style comics.
It’s because manga is popular. Really popular. Popularity spawns copycats. And because of Tokyopop, it’s relatively easy for someone to get published (compared to other methods). They’re encouraging these artists, which is good, but I’ve also read manga that made me go “What on earth made the publisher like this?” But then, I’ve read novels that gave me that same reaction, so it’s the same in all media.
Right now, I’m enjoying Mark of The Succubus by Ashly Raiti and Irene Flores.

It's not like all Manga is the same or has the same feel to it.
I don't see a great difference there. I mean, Yugioh looks completely different than s-Cry-ed. Naruto has not much in common with other stuff I read (Like Someday's Dreamers)
Sounds like the sub/dub controversy to me. Besides, I hate categorizing: If the story is good and the art work bearable/beautiful, I give it a shot!
Bhisengast (sry if I spelled it wrong) though published through TokyoPop is in no way shape or form Manga, yet, it's good. Will I read further volumes? You bet!
Besides, the link in the OP points to a book clearly marked as 'spoof' so I would assume the art work does reflect that!

Off*beat = LOVE. I didn't know many people had heard of it. Also, read Dramacon by Svetlana Chmakova. One of the best OEL (original english language) mangas out there. Yeah, I love the stuff. FYI, Most Japanese manga sucks too, but we only get the very best of it translated and brought over here. So that's part of the problem.

Oy I hated it when whiney Equus asinus otakus complaine about American manga. They're so arrogant it's not even funny.
I mean just like normal Japanese manga you have too look for the good crap
