Well apparently Zuko has stolen the show. And the series staff made Aang look like Zuko so he'd be more appealing and cuter. Well this according to some of the fandom. In all honesty I cannot believe that people would actually say that the series staff would take their main character and make him look like another character just for fanservice.
Aang doesn't need to be a Zuko clone to be appealing.

I don't think they look THAT much alike. The hair is scarily similar, but I think that's about all. And Aang would have to do something to cover up that arrow being in the FN.
Really aside from the hair, there's not much else.
And if the writer's were doing "fan service", I'd suspect things would not be as they are now. They have a story and are going with it whether we like it or not. If they started doing what we wanted to see, I think it would just start being cheesy. They are doing thier own thing and it works. Fan service, please!

I can't help thinking they're deliberately making Aang look Zuko-ish. Not to make him appealing (because it's not necessary) or for fanservice. But there is an undeniable resemblance with the dark hair and FN uniform. In the Theories section, DemonOfTheWest compared it to Zuko's dream of having an airbender's tattoo. I believe there is a strange connection between the two, and this is another hint to that. For me, that's cool because I like both characters, although I would hate it if Zuko really ended up looking like an airbender.

True, I hope Zuko's bald days are behind him! Not that I don't like him bald, but then he'd have to go through all that trouble of growing it out again... As for Aang's look, I'm withholding true judgment 'til we see what it looks like in the show itself - the DVD covers have a history of being sort of interpretive versions of the characters, not exactly how they look in the show.

Ooo... back to the Aang = Zuko's grandpa theory. ;D Hence the need to have Mark Hamill join the cast: "Zuko... I am your father!" "Nooooooo!" Like Dante Basco said, truly surreal.

Lol! Yes, I'm afraid Mark Hamill's gone to the Dark Side... Odd, because his character's element is the only one that actually gives light. (Out of curiousity, when did Dante Basco say that about it being 'truly surreal'? Just so i'll know where to look it up... ) I agree in that there are certain similarities between Aang and Zuko (one of the first places i noticed it was in The Storm). But that doesn't mean that one character is better than the other--they both have an important role in the show and i love them both. (I must admit that my favorite of the two is Zuko...but i've liked Aang longer. So anyway...)

Beautiful, nandi! And in your fic, Zuko actually whispers something about being respectful? This I gotta read! @ HeartofFire: I think the Dante quote was from last year's ComiCon panel ~ I'll have to go look that up. He was talking about taping the Agni Kai scene with Mark Hamill, I believe. *wishes she'd been in his shoes*

They could conceivably share many more Vader/Luke-esque scenes this season...
I'd love to see a repentant, dying Ozai look up into his son's tear-stained face (even after all the crap he put him through I still think Zuko will be distraught when he dies) and finally throw him some kind of bone...that he's proud of the strong man he's become...or something...though having him repeat Vader's last line...that'd be a hoot ;D but it wouldn't really fit...

I agree in that they do need some sort of closure... It would be nice to have Ozai finally realize (at least to some extent) that Zuko isn't worthless... Yes, that would be fun to see more Vader/Luke-esque scenes. ;D (Thanks for answering my question, btw, Le Chibi Bleu.) Nice pic, btw, nandireya. *is eager for the next installment of The Road less Travelled*

Maybe Zuko is Kuzon reincarnated?
Just a random, and half-"assessed" thought... ^^;;

Hardly random...that's been floating around since The Blue Spirit...what with them both being Fire Nation, both getting into lots of trouble and their names only being one letter different...

I have a theory that Zuko is a descendant of Kuzon on Ursa's side of the family. I would love that. Maybe if (or when?) Zuko finds Ursa she somehow lets slip that his great-grandfather Kuzon was a good man who opposed the war, and he recalls Kuzon being the name of Aang's good Fire Nation buddy - hey, "everything is connected," right? By the way, Nandireya, that picture is gorgeous. I can't wait to read the accompanying chapter!

I'm not sure why, but I don't like the Kuzon theories. I just don't care for the idea that Zuko is a reincarnation or descendant of someone who was Aang's buddy, so that means he has to be buddies with Aang. It just sounds too much like some sort of predestiny thing. Isn't one of the show's themes supposed to be that you make your own destiny? Seems to be a big contradiction there.
