Zuko made a "PSH!" noise.
"You are! You really are; you don't beleive me?"
"You know nothing about firebending. I'm not nearly as good as I should be. I can't shoot lightning and I can't-"
"Well I don't care what you say; you're still good. Don't put yourself down like that because I won't feel sorry for you."
Zuko stared at her and couldn't help but smirk seeing such a large grin and mysterious eyes staring back at him.
"Ha! ...made ja smile again," Katara muttered.
"Don't get used to it. I'm not the smiling type in case you haven't noticed."
"No kidding. But I'll get you to smile, yet."
"You sound very sure of yourself."
"That's because I am."
"Stubborn little waterbender, aren't you?"
"Perhaps," she smiled.
"Perhaps? 'Perhaps' says the girl who told me to jump in a river? You've got some nerve," he said softly, mocking her.
"When did I tell you to jump in a river?"
"When captured you and had you tied to a tree."
Katara laughed. "Oh yes. I don't know how I could have forgotten that. You looked so evil by the light of the fire. I was scared you were going to burn my head off."
"You were scared? You didn't act like it."
"I was scared the whole time. And when you first grabbed my wrists and said, I'll never forget it, you said "I'll save you from the pirates."'
Zuko chuckled.
"...how did you find my necklace? It almost seemed like you made it appear from thin air in front of my eyes..."
"I found it," he said shortly.
"You just found it? And you knew it was mine?"
"Who's else could it be?"
"I don't know. But I couldn't have been the only water tribe girl who ever visited the Earth Kingdom."
"Usually only Water Tribe men go to the Earth Kingdom. To fight. From what I heard, it doesn't sound like too many women join the Water Tribe army."
"Navy," Katara corrected.
"Navy. But you get my point."
"Yeah..."

well im new and ive never done this but ill give itt a shot:
They were both silent, Katara turned and saw that zuko was looking at her. "what?" she asked
"nothing its just-nothing" he answered quietly.
"No, what is it?" Katara asked just as softly.
"Well its just, you're the first person who has really seemed to-seemed to care about me in a long time" he answered "i'm not even sure why you do.."
Katara reached out and touched his arm lightly "I really think you have some good inside of you" she said
Zuko loooked into Katara's shimmering eyes and he though to himself that maybe, he could really trust her...
Katara leaned in a little closer and...

and said softly, "you're not a bad person Zuko. I can see that." Zuko looked back at her, his eyes widened a little in surprise and then sofened into a sad expression. He turned his head away away before replying, "I was just trying to do what was honorable. I just want what's best for my country, and the people of my country...but that's what got me into this situation in the first place." He sent her a furtive glance, seeing how she would take his words. Katara nodded, her attention obviously piqued. She wanted to learn more but instead said "you can tell me about it...only if you want to." "I want to." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I rly like this story and didn't want to see it die. So here's my post.

wow this is really good! i should add something but not now. not yet. don't get me wrong. i've written over 100 chapters for Nick.com on a Zutara fanfic. seriously. book 1 73 chapters, book 2 is gonna be 58 chapters. book 3 undecided. so let's put it this way. i have experience, but i want to sit back and let others do the writing for once. but....a little writing won't hurt! i'll be back and with ideas!!!
but i'm new to the site, sorta. i've been going here for a few months and just now got an account. it would really help if someone could tell me how to do a few things around here. i'm already have a bunch of fun trying to figure out MySpace HTMLK codes and such...

"I want to..." Zuko felt the words come out of his mouth in a rush and tumble, like a dam bursting in the floodrain of a summer storm. He felt his muscles tighten, the sinews turning to whipcord as his body fought the emotions that stirred in him. He found himself suddenly wanting to bare his soul beneath the softly compassionate gaze of the water tribe girl.
Everything he had learned, everything he had been taught in his childhood as a proud Fire Nation Prince, commanded him to keep his mouth shut, to bear the shame and agony of his past in his own secret prison. By keeping it secret, he spared himself the disgust or pity that would surely be directed at him once he revealed his disgraceful mistake.
But... Katara seemed different. There was a gentle grace that lit her eyes, and her smile was without the highborn sneer he'd grown accustomed to in the palace. He found himself wanting to share his secret with this girl.
No, not just wanting to... needing to.
"Katara... I-"
Zuko was cut short as the sound of scree clattering down the side of the cave made both teenagers jump. The light in Zuko's palm was quickly extinguished as he pressed a warning finger to her lips. It was a sudden gesture, one done without much forethought. Impulsive. If he'd have known the rush of tingling energy that would run from his one finger placed against her lips, he would never have done it.
Zuko jerked back and convinced himself that the thudding of his heart was from the sudden noise outside and not from the warmth of Katara's lips pressed against his hand, or the way she had moved against him, pressing so close that he could feel her breath against his neck.
"Someone's out there." She whispered. Zuko nodded, knowing that the gesture was useless in the complete darkness of the cave, but somehow unable to speak. He shook off the tingling nerves and leaned close to Katara, until the sweet, meadow-grass stained smell of her hair tickled his nose.
"We will fight." He whispered with a bravery that he did not feel, alone and vulnerable and with a throbbing ankle.
"Don't be an idiot." Katara growled. "You can't fight like that. Who knows what's out there." Zuko felt a shiver run up his spine.
"Come on." She said with sudden decisiveness. He could only hope she had a plan....

wow, never tried anything like this before so mine will probably be short. This seems really fun!^_^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The footsteps grew louder as they hunched themselves together. Katara was ready, positioning her hands in a protective fighting stance. Zuko began to feel his cheeks burn up and hoped Katara didn't notice. As they waited for a sign from the intruder an audible thump was heard and a voice broke through the silence.
"Stupid STALAGMITE!" A thud resounded through the cave. "Agh--that hurt." "No duh, idiot." "I am NOT an idiot!" "Sokka, you are the clumsiest--! Watch where you're stepping!" Toph said loudly. Katara relaxed, and she began to laugh softly. "It's you guys.... I was starting to think you'd never find the cave! Where's Appa and Momo?" "On the ledge above the entrance," Aang said. He sounded slightly depressed or worried--Katara wasn't sure which. Zuko scowled as Sokka stumbled into view. Sokka glared back. "Just what are you two doing all the way back here?" he demanded, his eyes narrowing in the firebender's direction. "Absolutely nothing," replied Katara coolly, "except waiting for you to show up." Aang exhaled slowly and sat down heavily on the ground. Toph cocked her head, as though she were listening to something. Sokka snorted. "I doubt it. Why hasn't HE said anything?" he asked, jabbing a finger at Zuko. Zuko watched Sokka's hand with obvious disgust. "Why does he have to? Are you interrogating him or something?" "I don't trust him, Katara. He's a--" "A what?" Zuko's eyes glinted dangerously in the darkness. The small pile of coals on the ground glowed brighter, illuminating his face in a frightening way. Sokka hesitated. "Go on, I dare you," he growled. "Guys..." Katara said warningly. Without thinking, she gave a gentle tug on Zuko's sleeve. He looked startled and glanced down at it before looking at her questioningly. "Don't fight," she murmured, her face heating up slightly. She looked away, embarrassed. "Yeah, I'd say that's a good idea. Especially since there's someone else headed for this exact spot," Toph told them. "More visitors?" Zuko mumbled under his breath. The five of them tensed, waiting for the approach of a possible enemy. ~~~~ OMG, this is fun! I can't believe nobody's posted on here in forever. I love this!
