I would've seen it except for the fact that John Travolta totally ruined the whole thing by playing a very fat woman. >

There's another reason I didn't see it: Zac Effron. I am so tired of hearing about how wondeful he is. I hate him.

I thought it was awesome, and had no idea Zac Efron was Link until someone pointed it out afterwards. He did a pretty awesome job, coming from someone who's unbiased. xD
And it's not like John Travolta playing a woman was that freaky--it was convincing, and I stopped WTFing at the screen after about a minute. xD

As someone who is a self proclaimed hater of all things and people High Schoo Musical, I have to say that I was very impressed and actually really liked Zac Efron in this movie.
And the movie itself is fantastic. Of course, Queen Latifa is amazing, but I was surprised at how good James Marsden (you might know him as Scott from the xmen movies) was. Corny was one of my favorite characters in the movie.
I've seen it a few more times then I'm actually willing to admit, but I'm just drawn to it. It's just all over great. And I'd honestly tell people to go see it just for Christopher Walken.

The role of Edna Turnblad is traditionally played by a man. In the original movie, it was played by Divine and in the Broadway role was originated by Harvey Fierstein. I would have been really disappointed if a woman had played her. John Travolta really did a good job of making you forget that Edna is a man in a fat suit. I'm also not a fan of Zac Efron but he was a very capable Link. He was adorable with Nikki Blonsky's Tracy. Or maybe it was just Tracy that was adorable... Not seeing the movie because of those reasons really doesn't make sense. If you hate it after you see it, that's understandable. But I haven't heard anyone say they've hated it, even hardcore Broadway fans who are hard to please with movie musicals.
My favorite parts were Good Morning Baltimore, Run and Tell That (Elijah Kelley was an AWESOME Seaweed), and You Can't Stop the beat, though I wish they hadn't chopped it up so much. They kept stopping and starting again.
The only part I found boring was Timeless to Me, but I've never really liked that song. I'm glad they took out The Big Dollhouse, and the addition of Ladies Choice worked well. Overall I LOVED the movie. It did what it set out to do - be a fun, musical comedy. I think I smiled through out the entire thing.

I would've seen it except for the fact that John Travolta totally ruined the whole thing by playing a very fat woman. > Eh, I don’t think that’s a really good reason not to see Hairspray. Like splendoris and syarafire said, the role of Edna Turnblad is traditionally played by a man and John Travolta did do a pretty convincing job. Anyway, I just saw this movie and enjoyed it a lot. I thought all the actors did a good job (Nikki Blonsky playing Tracy was so adorable), the music was catchy, and the movie itself was just great.
