Sokka and Yue.
"do an activity together"?
That was good stuff.

Wow, I wouldn't consider that witty at all, that's pretty blooming sexually awkward, which I think you said a page back isn't necessarily the kind of stuff you always consider wit to be. Aang saying he would rather kiss Katara than die is similar to that anyway.
Besides as you said before Y7 isn't going to touch anything that has not so subtle innuedo filled things, so really there's not at all much hope for Katara and Aang having a good witty conversion, as much as I would like one.

Uh...where's this video you speak of, yiceman?
And yeah, I don't think any Avatar relationship had "witty dialogue"; they seem to be just hilarious things said by very nervous or dweebish boys.

Eh... I think Kataang is pretty realistic, even the wait up to this point. After all, Aang is a kid having his first crush, and throughout the series he has been faultering and nervous about whether or not he had a shot with her. It was only recently he's starting taking bold, and awkward, leaps forward; the dance and the surprise kiss. As an inexperienced 12 year old, he wouldn't know how to be subtle or witty in these situations. It's more like diving from diving board from the first time. You're not really sure if you can pull it off, and you're afraid you may get hurt. So, people tend to hesitate and meticulously plan the dive, but eventually they just rush forward and do it, often getting hurt in spite of all their planning. But after doing it a few times, it becomes easier and you get over the fear of the plunge. You may even learn to pull of some nifty tricks on the way down. ;D But for now, I think the writer's have done a nice job in that area, at least. If you had young kids acting all slick and charming, it would just be silly and artificial. Just because someone isn't charismatic or suave or they don't always know the right thing to say or do, that doesn't mean they can't feel love, and it doesn't mean their story can't be interesting. Honestly, I often prefer stories about people with troubles in love, who can't impress the one they want with good looks, wealth and overwhelming charm. Those are just superficial aspects. Two people who really connect for who they are, rather than simply being tempted by eachother's charms, now that is rare and beautiful. Hmmm... almost seems like I'm cheering on Kataang. Too bad I still don't like that ending. Hope I'm not confusing anyone.

I would enjoy witty conversation between Aang and Katara. I was raised on Gilmore Girls, witty banter is what I do. But as has been mentioned, this is a kid show. Funny conversations have to be pretty much instant laughs, or kids get bored. It would be fun, but I think any really good bantering would be restricted to the fandom.

The difference, for me, between "do an activity" and "rather kiss you than die" would be they way it's presented, I suppose. Sokka says it and rolls with it. It works. They have fun with it. I don't expect the characters to constantly be "Mr. Smooth." I consider the wit to be how outlandish the suggestion is, but when Yue laughs at it, Sokka doesn't stutter in embarrassment, he uses it. And later she returns the same line and he smiles. It's no longer an embarrassing moment at his expense, it's a cute and funny inside joke between the two of them. Aang says it and it's a flop and aww now we have to feel bad for him. It's not a fun moment we smile watching, but one we groan at. It's purpose is to make him appear hopeless, not dorkishly charming like Sokka was. And I agree that none of the avatar romances are bursting with wit. Does that mean I can't WANT that? I need lower my personal standards? Maiko is more witty than kataang. They have to be...those two aren't the "lovey dovey" type. But Mai's utter lack of charisma and charm turns me off. I don't find her to be an interesting character. She doesn't say those weird things to be witty...she says them because she's a little strange. She's 100% serious about hating orange. So again, it's not about them being "slick and suave." It's about them having good dialogue. Humorous moments, moments that leave us fascinated...all with them just talking. Maybe that's too much to expect from this show, but again, need I lower my standards? I'm here to say what I think about two specific romances...one doesn't exist in canon, so not much to say. The other does, and leaves me unsatisfied. @frozen---Please, please don't start assuming I want innuendos. That is not at all what I want. Blech. Just the thought of Aang being "suave" makes me want to vomit. Again, for examples...the show Lost is pretty good at the kind of "moments" I like. Hereyago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8-JSJhDMywwww.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ2FG8wHhncwww.youtube.com/watch?v=DhwMGwyLQ9cwww.youtube.com/watch?v=yLu5XYmrykQ&feature=relatedNo innuendos or "lines." Just good character interaction. I don't see that in kataang. When do Aang and Katara ever just sit and talk about nothing at all? Just joke with each other? They don't. Either it's specifically intended as a romance scene, and thus 90% of the time is Aang crushing on her with maybe an attempted confession and one successful one, or it's not a specific Aang and Katara scene.

Avatar has a 30-minute time slot. And there is still so much to do, and so much to cover before the series finale. They don't have time to show us Katara and Aang just talking about anything. No matter how much I would love to see it.

They had probably 100 minutes of screentime this season that had no real relevance to the plot. There have been several episodes I would call "filler."
They have time. They could have filled that time with more character interaction.
Don't tell me that they had to snip out carefully crafted scenes between Aang and Katara so that they could show Toph swindling people.

Yeah...sorry, but I just can't see Katara and Aang talking like that. It's not in their character. You can want it, but it won't make sense if you get it, no matter how entertaining it may be.

I agree with Yice. That kind of interaction is lacking and more could have been done with it. Especially in this season, when they were all undercover and, let's be honest, significantly more relaxed than usual despite the whole DESTINY INCOMING thing.
But since it hasn't happened, one must turn to the fandom for now. I would love it if they did something like that in canon. And you never know, it could happen. It would probably be really quick, like a transitional scene or something, but M&B have never ceased to surprise us.

ya, I agree with Yice on this point as well, I really would like to see some of the conversations that inevitably happen on those VERRY long rides on appa... but they put toph swindling people for the little-uns that nick markets avarar to. ... but really, this is a negitive for ALL relationships in avatar. Katara and Zuko wouldnt be shown talking about food or favorate thing to do. ... but now that I think of it, Aang and katara could spend plenty of time discussing things like their different opinions on Sea Prunes, or Punguine sleding... Its because of lack of time (and that Nick thinks its viewers has no attention span) that it is not shown, not because of lack of material wow. I always figured you for more of a Ozi/Koh kinda guy.
