I think it's gonna be Zuko and Aang's fight. Even if there are loyal Ozai generals there, seeing him the pathetic mess that he is may loosen the leash. If it's a the FL is the ruler type thing, then no one would question it. Zuko took the throne from Ozai and Azula, two of hte most powerful benders we saw, I'm sure that sticks in the minds of the military as well. The weak, pathetic trader did it.
Zuko will not be able to do it alone, and it certainly won't end immediately. But I do think Iroh's influence will be heard, and he may be doing whatever it takes from his tea shop. Maybe Zuko made JJ his advisor, or Piando. He certainly has his back covered, by old masters and new friends. I'm sure his leadership will be respected.

Can't you just see Zuko honing his skills with Jeong Jeong and Piandao? Two masters...attacking simultaneously...Zuko deftly fending them both off...
I so have to put that in a fanfic...

Zuko...from banished prince...to hunted fugitive...to willing traitor...to teenaged Fire Lord...no one's had as many twists and turns in their character development...but we can still discuss them all here.

...but with Iroh's guidance... And that's one of my main grievances with the finale...Iroh is not there to give him guidance! He's in Ba Sing Se! This isn't a world of mobile phones and teleconferences. Zuko's not going to be able to fly off to The Jasmine Dragon every time he needs advice. I guess it means something that Iroh feels Zuko is able to stand on his own two feet...but it's still a lot to put on his shoulders. I agree......I almost feel as though Iroh has abandoned Zuko. He's making tea in Ba Sing Se(not that he doesn't deserve a retirement and a life he enjoys) while Zuko has been thrust into one of the most important and powerful positions in the world. He's got the whole world's future on his very young and inexperienced shoulders. I have no doubt that he will work extremely hard to heal the world but who's going to advise him? Zuko's got the heart and soul and morals but lacks the political experience. Hopefully, he'll set up some sort of council of advisors from each nation so that everyone's grievances and sides can be represented. Perhaps OWL will help him out. I'm not sure how exactly Aang is supposed to help Zuko out. I guess we can look at it more positively. If Iroh thinks Zuko's more than capable then he probably is. Iroh's a pretty wise man. Still, If I were Zuko, I would be terrified. Thank God he at least has friends to support him now. I'm sure there will be some hard core Ozai supporters around looking to make trouble. But, I'm also certain that the average guy, the average Fire Nation soldier, will be happy for the war to end . I see Zuko using the military to rebuild now instead of destroy. And, we must remember that the Earth Kingdom and both Water Tribes will be fully behind Zuko. That's going to help him. Zuko's definitely got a long, tough road ahead of him.

Yeah you are sooooo right... if i was Zuko i would be sooo terrified! and to answer you Q. Aang has been through so much i think he would be wise enough to help Zuko... though knowing Zuko i don't think he'll have any problems.

Yeah, you're right. Aang definitely has wisdom beyond his years and he can share that with Zuko. He has no political knowledge either, though. I guess Aang will be more of a good will ambasador for Zuko.

Well...Mai is the Governer's daughter. She might have some political knowledge! Maybe Mai could help Zuko. It sure would bring them closer and allow the two to spend more time together.

I don't know if Mai has any political savvy...she said her childhood was basically spent being quiet and out of her father's way. I still like the idea of Jeong Jeong and Piandao backing him up...

Yeah, two very honourable Fire Nation guys backing him up and advising Zuko would be great. He needs to remove Ozai's people from the palace and surround himself with trustworthy allies. Zuko should enlist Toph as a job interviewer. She could tell whether the people really support the end of the war and the rebuilding of a better world.

lol I could totally imagine Zuko's first council meeting: (Zuko's first council meeting) Zuko: *clears throat* So...as you all know, today is my first council meeting. *smiles weakly* Yay me. *light chuckle* ...Anyway, we need to discuss how we're going to recreate an era of peace and kindness. Council member: ...Wait, I thought we were gonna talk about how we're gonna retaliate against the people who stopped the Earth Kingdom from burning down and the Avatar... Zuko: Why in Agni's name would we talk about that? CM1: Well... Zuko: *sighs* Look, the war is over. We don't have to fight any more. I've already signed peace treaties with the Earth King, King Bumi, and both Water Tribe cheifs. CM2: But...I don't want the war to be over. Zuko: Why? CM2: Because we were doing so good! The other nations finally understand that the Fire Nation is the superior nation! Zuko: I don't want the rest of the world to fear and hate us! Enslaving citizens from other nations, arresting citizens from other nations for no apparent reason, genocide- it's not right! So if you really DON'T want the war to be over, I suggest you leave now! *all council members get up and leave* Great....now I need to hire more council members... *A few days later...* Zuko: Men...and women...we have our work ahead of us. We need to give the Earth Kingdom lands back to the Earth Kingdom and pull our troops from the Earth Kingdom. It's not gonna be easy, and it's not gonna be fun, but we're going to do it. Now...who's with me? Toph, Mai, Sokka, Katara, Ty Lee, and Suki: YEAH! Zuko:

Now that I think about it some more, I think Mai will be a great help to Zuko. Number one, she'll cut through any angsting and worrying he'll do and get to the problem. I think she can cut to the heart of any political issue that may plague Zuko, and give him an interesting point of view. He may not use her input, but it's always good to hear another opinion.

^^ I can picture Mai cutting to the heart of any political enemy Zuko may have- she does have a way with knives- but I dont think politics per se is quite her thing.

I can picture Mai cutting to the heart of any political enemy Zuko may have- Well... THAT would go a long way to encourage diplomatic relations... But you have just given me more fodder for my next fanfic.

Those are some of the things i like about him, too. (And I've also thought that he's kind of like Aragorn, in some ways. You know that poem "All that is gold does not glitter"? I think it could fit Zuko, too, especially the lines "From the ashes a fire shall be woken"--you know, his element and all --and "The crownless again shall be king." Or Firelord. Whatever. lol) But anyway, part of what draws me to Zuko is also that i can really identify with the difficulties he's faced, and the questions he's asked in life. (Actually, his heart-wrending back story was what first made him my favorite character, where before i didn't really like him that much.) But underneath the anger and turmoil, i think he really has a very sweet, almost childlike side, and that's part of what i love about him. There's a kind of innocence and earnestness about him, even after all he's been thru, or so it seems to me. As we know from the Storm, the fact that he cares about what happens to people got him into trouble in the first place, so i think he's been afraid to show that side of himself, and kind of built a protective shield of bitterness and rage (which it's taken most of the series for him to break down). So as you can see, i can go on for quite a while about Zuko, once i get started... I think i'll stop now, tho, but thanks to whoever revived this topic. great take on Zuko....I agree 100%. He's a fascinating character and I could talk about him for ages.
