^^Except for the fact that Zuko was standing up to Azula quite well on the gondola BEFORE the Mai/Ty Lee episode. Yes, Sokka helped him, but even without Sokka Azula couldn't land a single blow on Zuko and he had her off balance. It was a HUGE difference from their previous fights, and clearly the writers were demonstrating that Zuko had greatly improved and gained understanding that Azula lacked. You Azula fans just love to live in denial, don't you??? -- Spiritbender

Shouldn't the title of this thread be "Fire Lord Zuko" now?

You act like I said that Azula was PWNing Zuko in TBR---I said that they were even---I just added that I don't see him defeating her if they were to engage in a fair fight w/ both of them having a clear head. I wasn't throwing away Zuko's apparent improved skills at all in TBR. I'm just saying he wasn't up there to the point he could own her in battle. At least not yet.

I have no doubt that Zuko wants to find his mother but I dont see him obsessing over it. I think he's gotten a bit of balance out of his whole experience. I dont see it eating at him the way Katara's mother's death ate at her. He knows that hes become the man his mother wanted him to be.If shes been hiding somewhere, Im sure she will return now that he is Fireelord.

A while ago I asked how Zuko survived the lightening strike but when I rewatched a few times I saw he definatly caught it on his fingers..
Any way.. after that scene with Ozai I say we are definatly going to get a special episode about Ursa, there was no need for that scene other wise and the music just screamed 'going on adventure'
As to comparing Azula and Zuko's bending, Zuko said it himself he would need help facing Azula because they were more or less even but Azula was still a better tactision so she may have had a slight advantage. That was until he realised she was off her rocker and wasn't thinking straight. IMO precrazula could defeat Firelord Zuko after a very long drawn out battle. But were never going to see that unfortunatly....

Okay...so...to start a new discussion...and ignoring any comments made by Mike and Bryan in the Sozin's Comet book...how do you all think Zuko's going to fare in the Fire Nation's top job? Is a 16 year old boy with a tenuous grasp of politics and a cabinet made up of his daddy's followers really up to the job?

^^If a 12-13 year old boy can save the world, ruling the Fire Nation should be a walk in the park. Some people may have raised the issue of his age when they were trying to argue that Iroh would be next Firelord here and on the theories forum. I think that with Iroh advising him, Zuko should do a fine job. When it comes to ruling a nation, its hard to think of any other previous experience that can truly prepare you for the role. Some experiences can even lead to compromise in values. With Zuko's unique experience, the risk of him compromising values should be less of an issue. Anyway, after over a hundred years of war, he'd be hard pressed to do worse than his last 3 predecessors.

It's not his age but his lack of political savvy that concerns me.
Look in Zuko Alone...he knew nothing of his family's history. It could have been put down to nervousness, or he could have been spending his days studying while he was banished (though he might have been too busy obsessing over his honour and finding the Avatar), but he showed the same lack of knowledge in The Avatar and the Fire Lord.
He has strong morals and values...but that might not be enough...

^^ I dont think he asked Azula because he didnt know the family history but he just wanted to confirm if he remembered it correctly. He probably didnt remember learning anything remarkable about Sozin's death when he was growing up and he was trying to make sense out of a very oblique message. If political savvy got Long Feng and Azula where they are and did to the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation what it did, perhaps it might be a good idea to take a different route. I do get what youre saying, that ruling may need a rather more subtle approach than Zuko is used to but with Iroh's guidance, Im confident he can master it. He will certainly need to find people he can trust to help him govern in areas he lacks knowledge in. In that score, his experiences should have taught him a thing or two in deciding who he can trust and who he cant. There will be mistakes along the way but that always seems to be the case regardless of who is in charge. Hopefully Zuko will be able to learn from them quickly.

...but with Iroh's guidance... And that's one of my main grievances with the finale...Iroh is not there to give him guidance! He's in Ba Sing Se! This isn't a world of mobile phones and teleconferences. Zuko's not going to be able to fly off to The Jasmine Dragon every time he needs advice. I guess it means something that Iroh feels Zuko is able to stand on his own two feet...but it's still a lot to put on his shoulders.

He never had much difficulty in giving Zuko " simple chores" to take care off by himself either: "..you alone can cleanse the sins of our family and the fire nation. Born in you, along with all this strife, is the power to restore balance to the world." Zuko: Yeah, are you done with that prison dinner coz I think I need something to throw up in. It is an excellent point youve made and I can well imagine Zuko asking Iroh to change his mind or at least move his tea shop tothe Fire Nation.

That's a good question Nandireya. Someone at TV.com pointed out that the Fire Nation retreating from a war they were easily winning seems unrealistic. I don't know if Zuko can handle rebellions and supporters of Ozai. Since I can't really explain it well--I'll post what she said here:
Yes the main thing there was she wasn't satisfied with Ozai's punishment but she brought up some really good points--like the teachings that were given to the young children of the Fire Nation from birth. And another person said:
I think Zuko can succeed---it's just gonna be a lot of hard work to the point where it may seem hopeless sometimes.

And let's not forget the reaction of the crowd when he 'died' in The Ember Island Players...they were far from upset. *pimps motivational poster* Zuko's really going to have his work cut out for him...especially without Iroh (who was still highly respected by many) there to back him up. It is fanfic GOLD though....
