Hmm, well I can't really vote in this pole seeing as I am the parent! lol! But, speaking as such, my kids and I watch it together. I love the fact that my kids are bright enough to grasp the plot/story lines and not find it boring. I'd much rather my kids watch this as opposed to some of the truly horrid crap that they try to shove down kids throats these days.

I totally agree with you spirityue, they do get away with putting to much smut on TV these days. Even if you not a kid, some of it you just realy dont want to watch.

My mother used to be a little concerned about the Spirit World messages they were sending out, she told me to look over them, but on the second or third viewing of SOTN, she understood that it wasn't bad at all. So she cooled off, and that's when she started to get hooked on it. So, they all love it, and the characters. I understand how parents may think this is a bad show for children on the first viewing, but give it a chance before you make your judgement, just like my mother did. She over-reacted, but she turned out to be one of the biggest fans in my family. So, just give it a second chance is all I say to worried parents. Great advice. I think I might sort of try that. Not be so secretive and be open. But I still like watching the new episodes on my own cause I can get all excited in a nerdy way and there's no one there to laugh at me. Edit: +Javu+, the unaired pilot, is exactly what it sounds like, the unaired pilot of Avatar that was shown on the Book One boxset on the special features disk. If you're curious here is a link to the screenshots. Because it's not that easy to understand what they are acutally saying, because Mike and Bryan were being commentators on the episode. Making it rather difficult to hear. -Screenshots-Thankies!

My family thinks I'm way too obsessed and need to watch something else. They have no idea that I ship yuri pairings like Azuki. I've never got them to watch an entire episode start to finish without walking out of the room.
Every anime I watch is "Avatar" to them. They don't know the difference between My Neighbor Totoro and Death Note for goodness sake XDD
So basically, they don't care at all. I'm going to say they are okay with it, because there are worse things than being obsessed with a cartoon xD

My parents are definitely fine with Avatar. My dad has sat down and watched it, & I got my mom hooked. (when she used to make fun of Aang's arrow, although she now loves Appa) We watched seasons 1 & 2 & then made avatar related foods for the premiere of season 3. She's now been asking when the next episode will be. ^^ Eeep. Avatar = Love lol.

When I first started watching Avatar, I would get so excited and tell my family that this really cool show was on and yada yada. Parents weren't too concerned, cause I didn't really talk much to them about it. But I would bug my brother about it...cause I liked it and wanted to express my feelings. Then I was watching the Northern AirTemple once. And my mom came into the room and said, "is this an okay show?" in that tone of 'I'm not sure my child should be watching this'. So my guard went up from then. I shut my mouth. Cause I figured, if my mom was iffy on a few-seconds worth of the NAT, how would she feel about something more...cosmic, graphic, etc. So, everytime Avatar came on, I would go away to the lonely basement and watch Avatar. But I would always keep one ear open to footsteps up above and the door opening. My point is, even though my parents haven't got too exposed to Avatar, I know they wouldn't like it. I'm sort of sheltered. I've been that way my whole life. My parents jump out at any little thing that seems bad right away. And my parents just don't understand how I'm not going to jump off a roof thinking that I can airbend my way down or something. And I'm a firm Christian, I'm not going to make Avatar some kind of idol. But my parents sort of see it that way. Or would. Are there others like me? My parents are the same way, usually. We're also Christian. My mom hasn't seen it yet, and if she did, I'm not sure she would let me watch it, but my dad saw five or six episodes and he likes it, which REALLY surprised me. So, my dad's cool with it, but my mom isn't interested in seeing it.

lol that unaired pilot looks SOO wacky!!
I've never tried to get my parents to watch Avatar. I mention it often, but they never seem to recall it the next time I say it. Anyway, it doesn't matter. They're not too fussed. They'd rather I watched some innocent little cartoon than some sitcom (i'm a huge Friends fan)

To the first poster- I'm sorry about that, man. Must be rough to have to keep avatar to youself irl.
My reaction is pretty much the same as everyone here- my mom doesn't get it, but she understands that I need to watch it. She had a bias against anything animated, something I wish she'd drop, but ah well. She did buy me the first box set for my birthday, but she would never watch it with me. A bummer too, because she reminds me of Iroh and I want to introduce him to her. Lol, that sounded a little off-right.
My roommate could stand the show when I watched it, but it's always weird watching it with someone because I get so into the plot and story and other people are like "What? This reaction to a cartoon?" Now she says she hates it- I suspect to spite me. Whatever, I won't let it bug me.
I imagine my dad might like it, as he likes some of that fantasy stuff. Maybe I should try introducing it to him!

Hm. I feel bad for all of the people who don't like, understand or give Avatar a chance. Bummer.

My dad really likes it. When there's a re-run of it, he screams all over the house telling me Avatar is on. We have ALL of the DVDs that came out, so I don't know why he screams. xD My mom thinks it's good and funny. Her favorite episode is The Runaway.

My Dad loves Avatar. he really loved the shorts And he is just as ticked at Nick not airing the rest of the season as the rest of the fandom.

My dad used to love Avatar- I could actually debate with him about it, alas, Nickelodeon's poor handling of our beloved show has made us both indifferent (I'm still curious); he's very sad about Avatar's treatment by Nick. My mom isn't that into it, though she will watch episodes with us, she just absorbs it without appreciating it, she doesn't appreciate the same things my dad, brother, and I do- like Naruto.
My family are Nichiren/ SGI Buddhists so we're very open and familiar to Avatar's Eastern ideas.

my parents......well.. they're kind of like your mom, Firework.... they don't appriciate the GOOD animated shows......ya know.... the ones with the solid plots...they only like the ones that were only ment to be funny.. like Simpsons.... it's sad really. just b/c a cartoon isn't based around violent stupidity doesn't mean it's a horrible show... i'll make them avatards someday.... I WILL!!!!
