I'm split into two. You can say, though, that both the finales were very, very, extremely, dramatic.

To be honest, it is really hard to pick. Season one's finale had a beautiful movie quality to it like I have never seen before, and an amazing cliffhanger ending.
Seaon two's finale was amzing too...all the fighting, betrayal, twists, and Kataang moments.
I think I'm going to pick season one's finale, though, because it was more movie quality and tied together....but, to be honest, I love them both xD

I liked the season one finale better because it had more action and they were facing a whole army of warships. In the season two finale all they did was fight and fight and fight. In season one they had a better purpose for fighting.

I can't choose, but if I have to, I've to go with season one's. It made me shiffer the whole time at that time. It was so cool, the music was a bit better in my opinion, and the Yue sacrifice was just very emotional. It was a very sad episode and we finaly got to see Katara progress at that time. Also, the end was supercool, with Azula and all. In Holland we were at season one in 2006, at episode 13 I went on the internet to find more info and I found out Azula was the sister of Zuko so it actually spoiled for me. But anyway, season one made me look on the internet for more..... I think season two would as well... but it happened like that. Anyway, I did like the second season's as well, but the Azula-stroke-Aang-thing wasn't as emotional as the Yue thing... I mean, sure it was sad, but I actually shed a tear when Yue sacrificed herself and not with Aang. I do have to say that I really needed a break from Avatar, I do want to see season 3, but since the Dai-Li conspiracy thing everything has gotten weird. I really needed a break from Avatar. That sounds weird... -_-'' I won't say more, before I go off-topic.... season one owns it for me.

Season two, totally. Katara goes oober noober on the fire nation with whip thjingies and Aang starts to cry cause he has to choose between the avatar state and Katara. Intense.

The season 2 final was good, but seemed to much like a normal episode. The season 1 final was emotional, epic and fierced. Season 2's final was too incomplete. It left to much open and didn't have that epic feeling to it. Also, I feel that it was to Zuko based. That's a real flaw for me. Unlike Aang, Zuko isn't really an open character. He has limits. With Aang and his group the possibilties endless.

^^What??? Zuko is easily one of the most dynamic characters on the show. He has been through every bit as much change as Aang has. Aang disappeared in the iceburg for 100 years, and lost contact with everyone and everything he knew and loved (except for Appa). Zuko had to leave home, and eventually lost his crew, his ship, and everything that he ever had in the world (except for his uncle). During season 2, Aang travelled around the Earth Kingdom and learned many of the diverse ways of living people have in the EK and some startling truths about the nature and past actions of the Avatar. Zuko has also traveled around, met different people and learned to empathize with people who are supposed to be the enemy of his country. Aang had to go through a powerful process of spiritual purification where he confronted all the emotional blockages and attachments within himself that prevent him from realizing his full potential as The Avatar (and still hasn't fully succeeded as of the end of season 2). Zuko had to surrender part of his identity (the Blue Spirit), and is the midst of a deep inner conflict between the expectations imposed on him by his family and his heart's true desires, which still isn't resolved as of the end of season 2. How exactly is he a closed character???
Oh, and as far as which finale I liked better, I liked season 2. Season 1, while cool, was a deus-ex-machina type ending, which some might say is lazy writing. When I come home to visit my parents they watch this show with me, and while they like it a lot, they said season 1 finale was rather far-fetched, while the rest of the show seems pretty believeable to them. I kind of agree with them, although a good fantasy story still has to have elements of believability. Even if characters have super powers or whatever, they're still human, and what makes Avatar so great is that portrays such an accurate and realistic depiction of human emotions in the face of great power and conflict (the vast majority of the time). I liked season 2 because it was more about the inner conflicts of the characters, and because the villains posed more of a challenge and it left everything on such an exciting note. While it ticked me off the first time I watched it (I was screaming NO ZUKO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!), I realized that it was actually really cool the way it was written and set things up for an incredibly dynamic season 3. The dynamism of the characters is why Avatar is such a great show!!!

I love it when General Iro breathes fire. It's awesome. The only problem is is that he has to be kill off cause the voice actor for him died....

I think the season 2 finale had a bigger impact. In season 1, the good guys won, Zhao died, Zuko and Iroh are left for an continuation, the good guys only suffer one loss of Yue, and Azula is introduced. Woo. It seemed like a happy pappy regular episode ending to me.
In season 2, bigger things went down. We got interaction from rivals of Zuko and Katara. We got to see Azula manipulate Zuko and one heck of a teamed up, kick arse fight. Iroh felt betrayed. All in all, we got for a much more dramatic and climactic finale. At least in my opinion.
