I'm finally getting around to reading the Avatar the Last Airbender graphic novels and seeing the push for automation in their world makes me wonder if a future story by Avatar Studios will be one where bending is slowly fading away from the world due to an over reliance upon machines.
I'm currently on The Rift Part I right now and I just saw a mining operation that went full automatic and of course, we have the forklift. Unless this is primarily to provide jobs for the non-bender inhabitants of the world. I don't see bending practically staying in the world very much longer.
Do you think by the time Korra is near the end of her life and as the world waits for the new Avatar to be born there will be a decrease in the number of benders in the world? Could the Avatar go from being a lawmaking figure to more of a ceremonial figure as the six nations develop their own governing bodies and diplomacy?
This was something that The Legend of Korra seemed to have touched on briefly and that was that the world didn't really seem to need an Avatar anymore with all nations able to govern themselves. Maybe Korra truly was the last Avatar as it is implied in An Avatar's Chronicle.
Maybe from the time of Aang (before the iceberg) to the end of Korra's life is a time where the world slowly abandoned their more spiritual practice in-exchange for more technological ones. What do you think?
