Yes, we haven't met her yet (officially), but I thought it couldn't hurt to have a thread for her.
I believe that Asami may in fact be an Equalist, and I know I'm not the first one. She may have even been the chi blocker that fought Korra in the third episode, since that character was clearly female. The fact that she has a knack for driving may also suggest that she is very good at riding motorcycles, which is one of the methods of transportation by the chi blockers.
The only contradiction to this is that she is supposedly an avid pro-bending fan...perhaps she infiltrated the Equalists for her own reasons?

I think I might be one of the slim minority who thinks that Asami might be a non-bender who favors the benders. Since "colej" has made me a critical thinker, I see the Equalist movement similar to political movements comparable to what happened in the former Soviet Union.
Honestly speaking, I think it's easy to see that some benders (not all) take advantage of their gift, like Lightning Bolt Zolt, for example, who uses it to be a mafia-esque boss. Instead of using his bending for good/spirituality, he uses it to take advantage of people living in Republic City. People like Amon (who may or may not have actually been wronged by bending) and Mako/Bolin have had bad experiences with these rotten-egg benders, and I think we can even acknowledge the idea of pro-bending kind of corrupts the spirituality behind it. Heck, I think it's probable that even Korra takes advantage of her powers since she's so hotheaded where as Tenzin is trying to reinforce the spirituality through airbending. Back to my original point - it's usually the poorest, working class, which often ends up being a majority that's going to have a problem with the benders. The Equalists want to take/strip away what separates those with power and make everyone the same (seriously, Karl Marx anyone?) because they feel the system isn't fair to those who aren't 'privileged.'
However, Asami is supposed to be from the upper echelon of citizens, and even though she can't bend, she's allegedly a huge supporter of pro-bending. Asami may not be a bender, but she has wealth and influence through her father, and in its own ways, money is sometimes the greatest power of all. It remains to be seen how Lady Sato will make her grand appearance, but I have a feeling that she's going to be an ally for Korra, however, it may initially be for the wrong reasons.
tl;dr version: I think Asami is going to be a character who isn't an Equalist because of her social status. In my opinion, I think the Equalists are for the majority, going to be the poorer class who are frequently taken advantage of by corrupt benders like the Triple Threat Triads.

She could be "Catwoman" of Republic City Batman comparisons aside, I don't quite have an opinion on Asami Sato just yet. At least until I get to see what her character is really like in the series. Side note: I just came across this pic on Tumblr. Although, I'm not too entirely sure if this is a still from an un-aired episode or if it's just really good fan-art. Caution, it may or may not be a spoiler: expensiveenglishlessons.tumblr.com/post/21811346252/hey-its-asami#NotesFollowed by this: forever-makorra.tumblr.com/post/21816836832It looks somewhat convincing.

I don't know if I should take that seriously, From some of the other screenshots and sneak peaks this may definitely become a warzone soon. If Asami is more volatile considering she knows self-defense and is a big pro-bender fan I feel that might steal some spotlight from Korra which could be good or bad.

Asami didn't have her big debut yet, and the Avatar fandom on Tumblr are already on opposite ends of the fence with her. (^~^") It's pretty interesting to see how much of an effect she'll have in the show. You're right about it becoming a warzone soon, since it already exploded big time on Tumblr. Thankfully, it hasn't come to that here but... I don't think that I'll be jumping aboard any ships anytime soon. A lot of the speculation that I've been reading on so far is of her offering some money to get the Fire Ferrets into the championship tournament. Given the fact that she's a big pro-bending fan, and her father is the automobile magnate, the theory seems plausible. Update: *I apologize, the pictures just keep coming in & I have no idea where they're coming from. Do take note that these pictures may have been provided by some seriously artistically talented trolls (or seriously talented manips). So far, they do not have a credible source.* New(?) pic of Asami - superbilbofaggins.tumblr.com/post/21828005338/one-more-for-you-guysbut I have to admit...they still look pretty darn convincing

My theories: -Asami is an opponent, but not necessarily a Equalist. In the end, she will join Korra. -She and Korra will have a cat fight (for Mako). -Maybe she is relatet to Azula(Grandmother). -Or she is relatet to Mako and Bolin.

Does that suggest a clear Earth Kingdom heritage and she's possibly an earth bender?

^ it is possible that she could have some sort of lineage from the Earth Kingdom based on her green eyes, but I think Bryke mentioned that she's a non-bender. avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Asami_SatoHowever, I doubt that Asami would be related to Mako and Bolin. If that were the case, then she would have to be the adopted daughter of Hiroshi Sato. Mako was eight when his parents were cut right in front of him (not sure if Bolin was there to witness too), and he would have remembered Asami. But... If that's not the route you were thinking of, then there could be open speculation for a "Zuko situation" (Avatar Roku and Sozin both being his paternal great-grand fathers). Then there may be a chance that they're biologically related through some long lineage of some sort...but! I really don't want to get into that. That's a little too complicated for my comfort. I mean, would Bryke actually do that sort of back story? Based on the "leaks" (real or not) Mako seems to be interested in her I need to see Asami in action before I can make any judgments. Update:The Tumblr blog that I got the Asami pic from released more "leaks" but! view them at your own discretion. I'll leave you with this instead. (but instead of "Makorra feels" substitute that with "LOK feels" haha)

Leaks again, already? Augh. Thank you for the heads up, though. I like the fishy animation, haha. Poor poor Bryke, this must be so frustrating for them. For Asami's lineage, since she appears to be a legit player in this series' love triangle(s), I also doubt she's related to the brothers. Avatar does cover a lot of dark and complicated matters, but I doubt they would openly cross into incest territory. Zidaneski, Asami might provide an interesting foil to Korra though if there are similar in being Pro-bending fans and fighting. It's also possible that Bryke could throw a curveball and the two could actually get along instead of being rivals, but that might be too much. The warzone does seem inevitable regardless though, but I at least hope that the blood won't spread here. Asami wasn't what I was expecting but still seems interesting, and all of the other characters are of course wonderful too. There's enough room for everybody here.

Eh I doubt very seriously Asami is going to pull the attention away from Korra; after all, she's not the one with her name in the title. I just have a feeling Asami is going to be an ally to the bending movement just because of her investment in pro-bending. That's not to say her reasons are the "right" reasons (personal liberty, invasion of a person, etc) but just because according to leaks it looks like she's someone Mako becomes interested in doesn't necessarily mean she and Korra become enemies.

I dunno, I just don't know how Asami can fit into this amazing trio unless she somehow is radically able to change Mako's persona and in the process steps on Korra's toes. Bolin is fine the way he is and Korra I feel could use only a tadbit more flair. Mako needs to display some more emotions and that may not be to Korra's liking.I doubt there would be teen drama, okay maybe there will be. Actually, I expect things to get really crazy in the next two episodes with screaming in the Avatar world and in our world.

I see what your point is, but you know, pre-Toph, I wondered how an earthbender would work in the group. Asami might be a catalyst character; I think she's going to be more active than a one-episode arc, but there's no way Bryke are going to write a series about Korra then let some random chick just waltz in and take over the whole thing. But as a female, I'm going to be kind of offended if Asami's only purpose is to give Mako feels; have a little faith - I'm sure Bryke will impress us.

I agree Paraiba, but I also have feeling of apprehension with Asami so far. If she is going to join the group, they are really going to have to flesh out her character, something I am worried they won't be able to do on their timeframe.
As it is right now, Asami doesn't have much personality. So far she is a nice chick who happens to like probending, and is conveniently rich in order to solve the money problems the korralation (is there a better word for their group?) was having in a deus ex machina.
This does have the added side effect of making me EXTREMELY suspicious of her though. There are not many flat characters in an avatar series, so I doubt they would just conveniently throw her in without some kind of drama.
