Has anyone read 1984 or Animal Farm? Or know of Lenin/Stalinist Russia? This episode totally parallels that. The agents of the Dai Li (or whatever) that seem to pop out of nowhere? Secret Police. (Russia) Those agents following Aang so he can't say anything? The Thought Police. ( 1984) Joo Di I and Joo Di II being one and the same? The rules being changed but that's how they always were (Animal Farm). The creepiness is cool.
How are soldiers recruited then, I wonder, if no one is allowed to talk of the war?
I'm sure news of the drill will reach the inner walls of the city eventually, considering how it broke into farmland.
Overall, I was VERY pleased with this episode. The Aang-Sokka bowing scene? Hilarious xD Momo with his overly large cape? Cute. The Zuko Iroh bonding was lovely.

hmm it could be that king is hypnotized-good idea that ju dee lady at the end ould be the same one jut brainwashed again but i don't know why they would want to cut her hair-so it could be a different one. i think that one guy is in alignance with firenation and he himself could actually be hypnotized/brainwashed to keep the war queit so firenation can attack baSS off gaurd and make sure aang doesn't let slip on it or how to get rid of them.
it's possible that appa was caught on purpose-in the middle of the dessert with toph right there at the moment the buillding sinks-and then it leads them into BaSS-i don't see why the enemy would want that though.

Oh man, is it just me, or did Avatar just take a turn for the awesome. Clancy Brown as Long Feng is epic.
This is perhaps the creepiest cartoon ending I've ever seen. Like always, Avatar keeps pushing the boundaries of what it can get away with, and the intellegent, passionate audience responds with loyalty and devotion. I can't say enough how much I love being written up to, rather than talked down to.
I think all the real thoughts here have been made before I even got a chance to check in, change my avatar, and read up, but I'll finish anyway: My spine is tingling a little for next week. It's one thing to have threats and fear hanging over you, it's quite another to see how they actually fall.

Ugh, finally read all those pages. I think the word creepy just got overkilled. Well anyways, I enjoyed the Zuko and Iroh side of the episode but the other side was not entertaining but I guess thats because it was left on a cliffhanger. I get the whole shush about the war (why talk about a war you're about to lose eh, lol) but why would the tourguide try to stop the man from telling where the black market is, they know theres a war and the sooner aang finds Appa the sooner they can be kicked out. Well the other side was entertaining just not all the conspiracy junk, I just cracked up about the whole busboy thing cause thats my job and I just wished there was more about that.

Scariest things in this new episode: --- The brainwashing of Jet, with that endlessly circling light... even scarier may be the thought of how cheery he'll act if they ever succeed in breaking him. --- The substitution of Joo Dee ~ if all that girl lost was her job, I'll be surprised. --- The Mr Meaty commercials.

Did anyone notice the striking differences in the two Joo Dee's a bunch of pages back?
The first one has a softer face and seemed less threatening. Her smile was painted on, obviously, but there was little behind it other then keeping a sunny disposition and an eye on our heroes. The new one has a sharper face and seemed more sinister. That forced grin means business. It's almost like they get different levels of Joo Dee. The first one is the kid gloves one, the second one is a warning. They reach three, they get booted out of BSS.
By the way, I don't know if anyone spotted this but, when Jet was being hypnotized, why couldn't he do something, like, focus on another point in the room or keep his eyes closed? It's not like they were forcing his eyelids open.
I hope, when all is said and done in BSS, Long Fee gets sat on by Appa.

What i found that not once did Jet act all: "OMG! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" and tried to run off when they deposited him on the chair, this leads me to think that he knows about this kind of stuff, the eyelids being forced open and all that.

Nope. It was Clancy Brown. I recognized his voice before I saw the credits. He is awesome and very good in villain roles (he was Lex Luthor in the Superman/Justice League cartoons). Ahhh, thanks koh! You made my day! Karma for you! :3 Nick related, Mr. Eugene Krabs

It's ironic, How we say we loathe and despise Spongebob for taking avatar's ratings away, how avatar is supieror to Spongebob and how Spongebob sucks, blah blah blah. And Long Fei (sp?) is voiced by Clancy Brown, A.K.A Mr. Krabs from Spongebob. Ironic, is it not? (or at least is is in my house, lol)

Thanks to youtube i caught the episode. In my opinion, i have not been truely disappointed with an episode yet this season. I really enjoyed this one but it seemed too short. I wouldn't have guessed that Ba Sing Sae would have been so complex. I do agree that the episode was creepy. It was probably just because of the political ways of the earthbending people creating brain-washed citizens about the war. the social class setup made sense, but it seemed like a waste of space to have the uber rich folk spaced out like that. I did think it was cool how Sokka, Aang, and Momo were trying to be formal. I wish they could have gotten somewhere with finding Appa. Not necessarily finding his location, but at least a hint or direction would have been cool.

Probably my favorite episode yet. I'm in the military so it probably touched me more than it would a civilian. I'm used to figureheads, political red tape, and people watching you all the time and I've been to foreign countries were they have cities that are actually like this (secret police, force fed propaganda, leaders spreading lies or false hope).
With that said, it had more Smellerbee so it's all good to me. I have an itching feeling that her and Longshot will ask for Zuko's help to bust Jet out or something.
Aside from what everyone else pointed out, I noticed a strange comment by Aang. When Toph and Katara dressed up as nobles, he said "You look beautiful" but the shot was centered on Aang's face. Even though Katara was the one who responded, who was Aang really speaking too? Katara or Toph?
I think the writers/storyboard artists intentionally set that one up.
