When the user brings up the avatar state, the power they access is from former Avatars right? Doesn't that mean the 1st one was all on their own?

Probably might be true. The first avatar might have come up the avatar state by himself and it got passed to the future avatars.
EDIT: Shouldn't this be in the Theories section?? But since you're new that's okay

But since you're new that's okay Oh oops, I reported my post so hopefully and Admin or Mod will move it there. This would be another interesting story - Aang had the power to take away Ozai's bending. Guess the 1st Avatar was smart and decided everyone after him would need the help of their predecessors.

Due to Lion Turtle's testimony on there being a time before the Avatar when bending was internalized, it's also quite possible that the Avatar State was a representation of something similar. Maybe calling on the experience and ability of the past spirits, rather than the past avatars.

For the last time, Aang didn't have that power from the word go. Watch the bloody finale again. Toph asks Aang where he learned to do that, and Aang says the Lion-Turtle taught him how to do that.

Watch the bloody finale again. Toph asks Aang where he learned to do that, and Aang says the Lion-Turtle taught him how to do that. I dont see what the line about the "spirit bending" has to do with his overal point about the avatar state but its not like he's been pressing the same point time and time again. Yes, spirit-bending is a skill that Aang learned from the Lion Turtle from from the Lion Turtle's statement but I get the impression that this was a latent skill present on some level in all benders and that it that was used before the time of the Avatar (perhaps to be forgotten). On the main issue, my idea is that the Avatar, being an earthly incarnation of an elemental spirit (arguably of the world-hence his/her duty to the world), would have a pure spirit form existing in the spirit world. As such, the first Avatar would have focused the full power of this spirit when he entered the Avatar State. Roku may not have explained to Aang the full significance of the glow but only what he needed to know for practical purposes. He has left important issues out when advising Aang. For example when he didnt tell Aang about the Avatar's previous dealings with the Koh. However, he did make very clear that the Avatar Spirit and so the Avatar Cycle of Reincarnation could only be broken if the human Avatar was killed in the Avatar State. This is the main reason for my theory that it is only in the Avatar State that the true Avatar Spirit exists in the human embodiment of the Avatar (unlike Tui who was a full time fish for example). And I believe that the first Avatar had recourse to this true Avatar Spirit in the Avatar State even though he had no previous human lives.
