Not too excited about the rumored "flashbacks". I really wish that the ATLA characters wouldn't be mentioned (or at least, not their relationships/kids/etc.). Do not want lovebabies ever.

Do not want lovebabies ever. why wouldn't u like the Avatar characters to be involved?? i think it'd be interesting to see kataang's kids.....would be sooo cute! but anyway...as long as Bryke is creating the show, i'll watch it! if not, forget it! they made what we loved and i'm not gonna watch a show based on their idealism if its not them making it. it would probably end up disappointing me if that happened.

I'd like for the series to be as separate as possible. Having this be like just another story on ff.net (with Kataang - one of my least favorite ships alongside Maiko) would be a bore - I've seen/read enough of those already. Sequel-wise, I wouldn't mind references of the characters, and possible distant future relatives, but it would be best if prior ships were avoided. I just want the ending to ATLA to be kept as open as possible. Open endings are the best.

Good I hope it is a sequel and has Aang and the crew involved.

After thinking about it, if the show is going to deal with distant relations of the original characters, I'd like to see a little bit about their parents/grandparents in flashbacks or stories like we did with the main characters of the original show. Dealing primarily with THIS SHIP HAD BABIES, though, is something a good show should actively avoid - that is what fanfiction is for. But if the children played an important role in the plot of the show and drove the storyline besides being the babies of a canon ship, that could make for an interesting story.

Fanfic is just that. Its not part of the Avatar Universe and theres no compulsion to read it unless you get a kick out of it. I dont have an issue if Bryke want to reference or deal with the decendants (direct or otherwise) of any of Team Avatar. The key factor of whether it will be interesting or boring entirely rests on whether Bryke can come up with a compelling story arch to run through the entire series as they did with the original series.

I have to admit - the potential for ship babies takes me right out of this. DO. NOT. WANT. EVER.
And I would say this even if my ship was represented. I'm all the more adamant because two ships I didn't like at all will be represented. No thanks.

Sorry if this seems like a "durr hurr" question, but who is Byrke?

^^ Bryke is Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators of Avatar.
I'd like to hear more about the source of the 'it's taking place 100 years later and has flashbacks,' but my computer's going too slow to handle dongbufeng right now. And I really don't like learning stuff about A:TLoK (haha A:TLA is way cooler) through tweets. I like official releases.
So I'm cool with flashbacks being used very sparingly. The only way I see it working is by having the current Avatar speak with Aang the way Aang spoke to Roku. (And even then, why wouldn't he or she just speak with the previous Avatar?) I'm hoping there's not too much shipping in the flashbacks. It wasn't that much of a plot point in the original series, only the fandom, so it shouldn't be in this new series. And babies seal the deal on ships, while I prefer them to be open ended.....mostly because I didn't like the turnout. :-P But even if there was a Zutaralicious ending, it would be 100% unnecessary to have their babies running around in this series that has nothing to do with their storyline.
In regards to what I said about the new Avatar just speaking to the previous Avatar instead of Aang, do you think that he is the previous Avatar? If the new Avatar is a young teenager, then Aang would've had to live into his eighties, which he probably did. So yeah, my vote is that this is the next Avatar. And I'm just overtired now and talking to myself, I guess. Eh this post started out making sense and now it's totally incoherent. Sorry about that.

Yeah if the 100 year thing is true then it's probably the next Avatar in the cycle.
Also, I have something I need to point out with the whole 'shipping babies' debate; namely that there is a difference between what you call 'shipping babies' and characters that happen to be descended from a canon ship.
'Shipping babies' exist only to prove that the chosen ship won, they get their stories told in a way that exaggerates their importance.
Characters that happen to be canon ship descendants get the appropriate amount of screen-time for their role in the story.
Basically, the kind of characters you're complaining about are the kinds that only exist as extensions of other characters. While the kind that come from good or at least decent writing (i.e. the ones they'd actually make) simply have known characters a & b as parents instead of unknown/minor/etc. characters x & y, and were it not for having previously been main characters a & b would = x & y.
Hope I actually managed to make that rant make sense.

But the source they give for their information, another website, says that she is the next Avatar. With Aang taken her under his wing in the way Roku acted for him.
