What would have happened to the Avatar Cycle if Aang had died along with the rest of the Air Nomads? The Avatar would have been reborn, obviously... But, then, after the Fire Nation's Avatar passed, what would come after? Would the cycle cease to exist? Or, would it continue to the next nation, Water?
Does anyone know? I'm honestly curious. I'd just like to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter.

Especially because Aang is probably the last airbender, and he isn't immortal, what's going to happen when he passes on? There'll be a water-tribe Avatar (hopefully a girl , then there'll be someone from the Earth kingdom, then someone from the fire nation, then... what?!? My only theory is that some people might being to learn the ways of airbending from Aang and from the sky bison, like they originally had (maybe there are a few of those left), and then very slowly, the air nomads can begin to rebuild. We've seen with Toph and Zuko that the animal masters can still teach people, so maybe there's hope. What do you guys think?

It's fairly reasonable (and definitely in Bryke's nature) to assume that Aang and Katare will restore the Air Nomads. I'd think, anyway. There have never been international couples, once you think about it, during the course of the series. Katara & Aang would be a first, along with Sokka & Suki. That raises the matter of which bending children would Kataang have? Water AND Air? They are THAT perfect...
But, I believe the Air Nomads will be restored. It was more of a hypothetical question. WOULD the Avatars cease to exist or WOULD it skip to Water? I'm honestly unsure.

So maybe Aang could teach some of the people airbending.

Remember, it's not gentic. Tegtheavatar is right. Bending is about spirituality, which is why all Air Nomads were Airbenders. Although I still firmly believe that there's no way the Fire Nation killed all the Airbenders, (The Western Air Temple was so undamaged, it just seemed ridiculous to think that they were all killed with next to no proof, and the only proof being FIRE NATION skeletons, if memory serves.) I also believe that if they did all die out, that the spirit of Airbending would refuse to die. Possibly resurfacing in the Northern Air Temple? Oh, and to support my idea of not all the Airbenders dying out, may I point out in the Avatar Trading Card Game there is a character named Malu who survived. Who's to say there's not more?

^I think Aang truly was the last airbender. (Of course that is not to say there will never be anymore, just the last of the "old" generation of airbenders). The trading cards aren't really cannon, so I'm not really sure how those characters do or do not fit into the world of the show.

Well, yeah...I know they're not cannon. But I prefer to believe that the Air Nomads could out run--or at least out maneuver them. Of course, even if it Mike and Bryan came up to me together and shook me by the shoulders and tried to tell me there weren't any, I'd laugh in their faces. As a writer, I think things are revealed to you when you least expect it. So...yeah. I'm strange with it all, I know...
