Yeah, I agree. In fact, if you've read Homer's The Odyssey, you can point just about anything back to it, including Star Wars and Avatar.

Yeah, I agree. In fact, if you've read Homer's The Odyssey, you can point just about anything back to it, including Star Wars and Avatar. Oh no doubt about it! There's so many themes you can trace from the Odyssey, even Spirited Away and Alice in Wonderland. It all has to do with the journey the hero takes and the friends and mentors he/she meets along the way.

Sorry for double posting. I had wrongly assumed that the rule did not apply to adding new information several days after the original post. I never said that I thought that the storey themes were absolutely unique to Avatar and Star Wars (both storeys being admitted by their creators of having been drawn from classical genres) and I did say that I agreed with Zerg on that point. Its just that the relative ages of the creators would imply exposure to Star Wars at an impressionable age and taken together with the similarities noted in this thread (admittedly cricumstantial but I feel persuasive if read together), I still think it not unreasonable to imagine that Star Wars might have been an important influence or at least a point of referrence for the creators in coming up to themes in the series. Ofcourse there are common themes in all storey telling. The West Side Storey is the same as Romeo and Juliet. Its just that one generation may be more familiar with the former than the latter. Given the basic theme of both the storeys and your particular generation, which names come more readily to mind for you? Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer or Leonado Decaprio and Claire Danes? Still I appreciate and respect that most people here dont share my view on the point.

What difference does it make? They hand something else substantial to say and a few days had passed. Generally double post rules are just to guard against people who make one sentence posts and post again a minute later when they think of something else to say. :/

*The way Luke left Yoda without completing his training because of a vision of his friends being in danger./The way Aang left Guru Pathik without completing his training because he has a vision that Katara was in danger. I Think thats a good Snag. The way Aang is the last Airbender and Luke is the last Jedi seems to good to be true. The leave during training is a little rusty, i wouldn't believe it. But the reluctancy in kill Phoenix King Ozai/Vader is astonishing, Seriously though, Great Find. I believe another reason is that they both have to restore balance to the Universe. Maybe Avatars not as original as we all thought, Just Maybe. ~DizzY~ I just happened to be checking out the Avatar Wiki website (hey, we all deal with AWS in our own way) when I saw this bit in the notes for Aang: "Aang's premature departure from his Avatar State training to rescue Katara in "The Guru", and its results, are very reminiscent of Luke Skywalker's impulsive actions in "The Empire Strikes Back"." avatar.wikia.com/wiki/AangYeah, Inkw it doesnt prove anything but its nice to know I wasnt the only one who saw a similarity.

But Luke's not the last Jedi...Leia was strong with the force too...and she became a Jedi in the books that followed the series...along with many others who Luke found. Aang will always be the last Airbender...Mike and Bryan said there were no other Airbenders out there to find...

^ "Luke, when gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be."- Yoda- Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi . Star Wars Canon has been described as just the six movies. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_canon I do acknowledge that in the Expanded Universe, there are Jedis after Luke. On that note, theres probably a lot of fan fic of Airbenders after Aang and since Viacom which owns Azulodeon also owns the rights to the series, who knows, there there could will be licenced novels written about ATLA's Expanded Universe if the movies take off.

Discounting the EU as canon, there would still probably be Jedi after Luke. I find it incredibly unlikely that with the Empire gone, Luke would make no attempt to restore the former Jedi Order, or at least something quite like it. Really it's the same thing as with Avatar, it's up to the viewer to decide, but odds are they'll come back.
Then again, with just the 6 movies as canon, there's a good chance the Empire lives on even with the Emperor gone. Their control of the galaxy may have been disrupted, but it wasn't shattered, and it's unlikely they'll give it up.
MORE SIMILARITIES! =D

^^ Its more a point of story arch than anything else. At the end of the series, Aang was the Last Airbender and at the end of the Star Wars movie series, Luke was the last jedi. That was the story Mike and Brian had intended to tell about Avatar and that was the story that George Lucas intended to tell Star Wars. I do concede that in an expanded story line there are such possibilities.

Some other parallels in the flow of the series were also alluded to in the motivational posters thread. That was MEEEEE!!!Ohh, I should probably contribute something too... Fire Nation Soldiers - All ware the same outfit, keep control for Ozai Dai Li - All ware the same outfit and look similar, keep control for Long Feng/Azula Clonetrooper or Stormtrooper - All are the same, or ware the same outfit, keep control for Darth Sidous.

Fine... Anikin - Starts out good, looses mother and becomes tempted by the dark side because of her loss, turns to the dark side, follows master unconditionally and hunts the one who can save him relentlessly, but ultimately helps save the universe. Zuko - Starts out good, mother has to leave, and because of the lack of a figure of good turns evil, follows father's instructions to hunt the avatar unconditionally and rejects the one who can save him (Iroh), but ultimately helps save the world. How's this too, Sidous - Kills master to take power Ozai - Has father killed to take power.
