Eh. I'll admit that this was a funny episode. I think the thing that annoyed me was that the play, like Zuko said, brought out some of the worst memories of the Gaang and parodied it. And, I'm really surprised that they took it rather lightly (though they were still mad... in the OPPOSITE way. Like how Sokka was more disgruntle about the jokes actor Sokka made rather than the parody of Princess Yue's death/transformation). Yeah, I expected that this play was really a show of Fire Nation Nationalism/Propaganda. The ruthless Fire Lord always wins. And how did they find out about all of this information anyways? So the Gaang was being followed the entire time, or the Ember Island Players tune into Nickelodean's A:TLA every evening at 6-8 too?

In the beginning of the episode sokka reads from the poster they found. It say's that the maker of the play 'scattered the globe, gathering information about the avatar, from the icy south pole to the hearth of Ba Sing Sei, His sources include: singing nomads, pirates, prisoners of war, and a surprisingly knowledgeable merchant of cabbage'
So basically he interviewed a lot of people XD
I myself didn't really enjoy the episode to be honest. Although there are a lot of arguments to come up with that speak in favour of the episode. To me it all comes down to the fact that it didn't glue me to my screen like other avatar episodes did. In all honesty I thought it was a bit cheesy.
A important aspect of the episode was probably the character development. But I don't want to sound naggy, but development is as important as the way it's presented. And to me the development lost strength because of the episode. Now I understand that you can look at this from different point of views, and that my statement is completely debatable. But what it means to me is that I didn't enjoy the development, because I didn't enjoy the episode.
Where the southern raiders left me with a very satisfied feeling, a feeling of content and excitement, this one did not. In fact it left me with a very empty and sad feeling.

@ VoC: There was actually one Toko moment. But yes, that bonding/friendship moment was definitely one of the highlights of the episode. I've always thought friendship!Toko would be sweet and that they would talk about Iroh, seeing Toph knows him too, and that little scene confirmed my thoughts. Sokka was win. He was good ol' funny Sokka again. And the more I see Suki, the more I like her design. (I already liked it a lot, btw.) She looks really good in FN clothes. I don't know what to think of the Zutara moment. It was lol but it somehow felt like the writers were bashing and making fun of Zutarians and the idea of Zutara... But that's just my opinion. About Kataang. Normally I like Kataang but I absolutely didn't like it in this episode. I can understand that Aang really wants to be with her but he was so immature then (unlike in the previous episode). He should know by now, seeing what happened in CoD, that he needs to focus on the war now instead of Katara. The whole scene felt more awkward than dramatic, and I assume 'making it dramatic' was their goal. Despite that, it was a good and enjoyable episode. I liked it.

@kohana: Yeah it iffed me a little that he actually took that ONE thing in the play that seriously. @iggy: Yeah, but what about the opening? Did the spirits of ice and water tell them about that first encounter?

@iggy: Yeah, but what about the opening? Did the spirits of ice and water tell them about that first encounter? I figured Sokka probably told somebody about it.

Wow Pg15...that was long. I agree with every bit about the Aang and Katara relationship. From what I learned in my own experience is that a guy can never assume he knows how a girl feels. I can really feel for Aang now. So many times I've had that romantic moment and I always held back from kissing cause I never knew for sure if my friend liked me in that way. But Aang did go for it and while thats respectable, it didn't work and now he is in the position I always dreaded myself.
This is why I could never support Kataang or Zutara fully one over the other because the Kataang situation is ver prevalent in our day (apart from their ages). While Zutara is too, hot guy being friends with girl for a short time and then becoming more than friends while the girl had a different guy friend that liked her for longer than she's known the other guy.
What I thought was interesting was the parody scene of Aang and Katara on top of the submarine when they become happy with being friends. That is what I think how it should be, Aang may be dumped hard but to truly show himself to be mature is to take that experience, learn from it, and continue being friends...BEST friends.

I was just confused as to how they knew how Katara and Sokka were fishing and Sokka was talking about eating? Or about stuff that I'm confused as to how the Fire Nation could find out. & they had Prince Zuko capture Aang and then The Blue Spirit showed up?

I didn't feel like they were making fun of Zutara but the shipping debates, with the Zutara lines, and I'm pretty sure there were KAtaang cliches too. The same thing with the (BEST MOMENT EVER) "Did he just die?" "I don't know, it was very unclear." In my opinion the whole play was a nod to the fandom. Like a"You guys are our diehard, half-mad, fanatics. This one's for you, because as illogical and fickle as you may be, without you we be here, so we're giving you the series from your standpoint." With all the character insanity arguments, Aang's voice, etc. And the Kataang was probably a story nod, and I agree with pg15 on what it means.

Wow, last and best filler ever.
Anyways, I noticed a goof on the play's part. When Aang came back for the 3rd act, Sokka was telling him what happened (went into the FN, Katara was Painted Lady, Sokka get new sword, Combustion Man died). And Aang entered right before the invasion. But wait, didn't Combustion Man die after the invasion at the Western Air Temple?
