i think Airbending its self can move the air around the object and manipulate that object. That itself is really coool

Guys I've been noticing a lot of double posting in this thread. Please don't do that, you can always modify your last post. It wasn't double posting, look at the times of the posts surrounding it, for some reason the thread went whacko and started rearanging posts

I always assumed that a higher form of Airbending would be something like Soundbending. Controlling the air the sound moves through to manipulate and/or redirect the sound.

Man I think Airbender can do alot of things. Other than the abilities to produce, some of the most powerful natural forces in the world: -Tornados -Hurricane -Whirlwinds I think if Airbender can isolate or combine the particles in the air, they could essential manipulate element of water and fire, and some pretty nasty and deadly attacks: -Remove Oxygen from Surrounding Air = No Fire -Seperating Oxygen or Hydrogen from Water = No Water -Suffocate enemies with Monoxide, Nitrogen, or Carbon Dioxide Gas. -Knock Out Enemies by taking oxygen out of their lungs. -Concentrate/Compress Air!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrbTEmd8W2s-Soundbending sounds legit. Sonicboom anyone?! -Also, the main source of someone chi comes from the Air, there are other sources of Chi. But If you think about it, Most benders breathe to cultivate their chi, then transfer it to their chakra, from their channel that energy to produce elements. So no air, no energy source, no bending!! lol -I see airbender being as powerful and versatile as waterbending. -Oh and to be considered an airbending master, you have to obtain your arrows tattoo, and in order to that you have to invent a new airbending technique. And well airbending has been around for CENTURIES so thats alot of technique, some deadly, some not. Good thing the monks were generally pacifists -Oh if airbenders can play around with the temperature of the wind, then oh man they can cause a lot of interference with communications (if the fire nations ever advance enough in technology for such)

your right, I mean once the other nations begins trading with the fire nations again, I believe technological advance will speed up 10 folds, but with every technological advancement, the art of bending slowly dies, as to the world of avatar, it was once a way of life, now just merely at art form.......kind of parallels today martial arts.

With the Mechanist it definitely would increase drastically, although bending would probably probably turn into what the Air Nomads used it for, fun. EDIT: And what would be more fun then gravitybending a little area so the gravity is lighter? Everyone could jump around and bounce really high

Btw Storyteller airbending was only controlling the stream or flow of air, not the particles like oxygen.

He said airbenders could stop fire/water by pulling the O2 out.
Airbenders control the stream of the air flow, they don't control specific particles of the air. I think people associate air with our breathing air, which is supposed to be O2.

For the same reason, splitting water into oxygen and hydrogen seems iffy (more so because it involves an actual chemical reaction... if airbenders could do this then it would follow that earthbenders could change sand into diamond, or metal into earth and vice versa). I think we've seen a compressed air wave sent out by Aang before in CoD, when he shoots that Aang shaped mass of air at Zuko and knocks him over (at least, I like to think it's compressed air). At first I thought that creating storms was just really powerful airbending, something not really on an entire new level, but upon thinking about it again, I realize that there's something different about tornados, hurricanes, etc. from regular airbending. Like fire, tornados and hurricanes can be self sustaining... they don't need continual input from the airbender to grow bigger and continue in their paths of destruction. Of course, the airbender would probably (hopefully!) be able to control it once it starts... but like fire, there's something alive about storms.

Actually seeing as we have 100+ elements in our world but they only have 4, I highly doubt they would know about the things that make up air But lets go back on topic

I always thought it would be cool if Aang could create a vaccum in a room. That way there would be no oxygen to firebend...........or breathe for that matter! But suffocating someone to death seemed a little harsh for Air nomads.
