okkkkk.... all i have to say about Yahoo! TV is... they don't know anything about the show.... Avatar: The Last Airbender A self-absorbed pre-teen must face his destiny as the Chosen One to restore the world order. first of all.... aang's not self-absorbed, he thinks of others mostly before himself. just don't get all frazzled up about some stupid Yahoo! TV people's description.. they obviously don't know what they're talking about.

I just made a complaint to Yahoo TV about it, I told them they need to change their description. I would suggest anyone else who has a yahoo account to do the same.

Actually I think Aang IS pretty self-absorbed, lol. As most 12 year olds tend to be. It wasn't really until the third season that he started putting the most important things before himself.
Season one he just wanted to d**k around and do what he wanted, unless forced into a situation. Then the finale was character development. Think of pippin in the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie when he had to stay with Gandalf in Minas Tirith(sp?) before an impeding fight of doom.
Season two he got a little better, started putting things on the right track. However, he was still pretty selfish IMO. The Appa situation, and then later "BAW CANT LEGGO O KATARA!" situation with the guru. Then again in this finale there was more character development, and he finally did let katara go, albeit he got prematurely shot down. ...Silly Azula
Season three he is finally bucking up. There is less doing things for himself but more for others and the bigger picture, but there is still goofing off sometimes (as like I said, any 12 year old would do). --
Your dictionary link confuses me...I didn't see any type of definition, then I noticed in the search bar it said "anime.". So I removed the period and THEN i got definitions...all of them were acurate. So...huh? Whats the problem? XD

^Yeah I thought that about Aang too. He IS twelve. When I was twelve, I thought about - er, getting toys, I guess. (I forgot what grade you are in when you are 12. xD) But, Avatar isn't some shallow teen-drama on The N. They didn't need to put that in the description. They wrote "self-absorbed" as if Aang is this egotistical selfish brat who wants to climb the high school social bar (but I guess that's the typical scenario for stuff owned by Viacom, eh?). In my personal opinion, self-absorbed sounds better to describe a 15 year old, not a 12 year old who hasn't quite learned better yet. And for the anime def, well, yeah it's accurate for the most part, but, they wrote the def as if every anime has exploding sex/sensuality in it!! That, and they added the sex detail in every def., so that's why I said it was biased. Come on. As anime watchers, we all know that isn't true. I think all of us have been ostracized by non-anime watchers who think that all we all either watch Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon or that we all watched animated porno, and, if it's in a dictionary, then it's true, right? I mean, American graphic novels have their share of sensuality too, not just Japan. Course, people in America don't really read American graphic novels anymore, so I guess the PTC can't exploit sexuality in American graphic novels like they do in Japanese. Eh, didn't mean to ramble about the def. All I have to say is, give it a few years for the writers' to take back what is theirs, let them put whatever they want in American animation (violence, drugs, profanity, sex, etc.), and people can't victimize Japanimation like they do now.

Well sexuality and adult themes ARE a defining feature for a large majority of anime. That doesn't necessarily mean its all porn though. ^^; Anime just gets to express it more freely than American cartoons since america is prudish like that. So i guess that is why it is in the definition. American graphic novels now however are alot of times treated more like adult books than they used to be...Take batman comics for example. There is one issue (i think its Batman & Robin the boy wonder) where Joker has sex with a girl and then kills her like Joker always does. It was rather grim. That never gets to translate to the cartoons though, look at B:TAS, Joker had to get toned down ALOT. (he was still a b*****d though. ) So like you I wish american animation would stop being so prudish as well! Though there are some gems out there, like the animated Spawn series that was on HBO once upon a time. Hehehe
