bump.
Aww man...I'm beginning to second guess myself if I really want to go through with this DM audition...I really do like marching and wanted to be a squad leader senior year, but being DM is also really big...the auditions are two days away and I have no idea what I'm thinking...>.<;;

OMG!!! I never thought a thing like this could happen!! Whoever started this(I forget who) you are awesome!!!! Hello all, I am one of the biggest band geeks out there. I'm sure all of you are in the same boat with me. I play the clarinet and have been playing for 5 years. Unfortunatly we only started in 7th grade unlike other places, or so I've heard. I am also the Drum Major of my school Marching Band which is awesome! I never thought I would be the DM to tell you the truth. I really like playing but I am also glad I got the position. Anywho, well, I think I might have to PM a couple of you people to stay in touch. This just made my day!!!!
Go Band Geeks!!!!

I have played in a band to but not realy your type of band. I played drums in a gothic rock band i started with a friend of mine. Unfortianetly we broke up about a year ago after many many line up changes. I had to go on training period and a few other members went to universety in different cities I still make some now and then music with my friend and some times on local jam sessions. And i'm thinking of forming a new band with my friend and use the material we have written. It will only be hard to combine it with my study. But the truth is.... It's great to make music togheter

The high notes on that thing can do some wicked damage on your hearing

OMGZ! How come I've never seen this thread!?! I was in high school marching band since the 8th grade (yes I was that good lol). My primary instrument is the flute but I played piccolo in the marching band. During my junior and senior years I was woodwind section leader and band officer. I also ending up conducting during one game due to both the Drum Major and 2nd DM having to go to the same funeral (they were related). I remember that being so much fun. Band was a wonderful experience and I met a lot of interesting and fun people throughout my years.
Sadly though, playing the flute and piccolo is only a hobby now since I take college online now. (Hey maybe I can volunteer with my old high school band or something...)

I can still play the flute somewhat, even though I haven't picked it up in a while.

O YES. High notes are teh <3. I like them better on the flute than clarinet. Clarinet high notes sound like...a bagpipe tuning. Ew. Thats no fun.
But low notes are smexy too. And I can actually play them decently.

Dude, you people rock...and why aren't there more MALE band geeks?! I'm the clarinet section leader for our marching band, and sit first chair in the Symphonic Band. I'm so glad there are other band geeks on this site...though the lack of outspoken males bothers me. C'MON, GUYS, WHERE'S YOUR SPIRIT?!
