Mwahaha! I'm resurrecting the long lost band room! >:D
I was just randomly looking up defs on UrbanDictionary.... Then I came across marching band. I expected to see a whole lot of banter about marching band, but I found this instead:
Marching Band
1. My life
2. The best way to make friends freshmen year
3. a great place to learn music (no s***), marching (no s*** part 2), balance, dynamics :-D , how to deal with others, leadership, reflexes, flexibility, and more and more stuff...
4. About the only thing in in a Band Kid's life
5. usually comes with a colorguard attatched... unless you don't have one, which was a good thing at one time but colorguardies are sweet and I'm glad my school has one again
6. A second home... I live in the band room half the year, the band is my extended family, my instructors are awesome, MM is amazing too
7. Where we learn to "March Like Gods" as Julio says
8. Where I learnded how to BS anything
9. and turn any innocent comment into a very dirty one
10. Hot guys... most, and then some ugly nice ones :-D
11. An experience everyone who loves music should have
I'm gonna hafta strong agree with number 2. Just about all of my friends freshman year were either in marching band and/or concert band. Plus all of the anime kids were involved in the whole arts and communications department. We had our own turf. :D
Ya know, I usually always look at the bad things about marching band (Maybe if we lived in a state where the summers weren't so dang hot, band camp would have been a lot more bearable), the bad weather and us having to practice in it anyway, the long practices, the bossy upper classmen who weren't even section leaders, my flute section period....
But then again, if it wasn't for band camp, I wouldn't have met all of my REAL friends, cuz it was on the last night of band camp that I met my bff and all of my other amigos. I had to be asociated with the worst kind of people all during middle school band, I made myself believe that they were my friends when they really treated me like s*** most of the time. But I had to bear with them because I didn't have any other friends. I'd hate to think what would have happened to me if I had stayed with them in high school... I will always remember that last night of band camp. There was a going-away dance that night, and everybody was going. I was going to go, but for some reason I didn't. My "friends" were getting ready and slipped out of the cabin and went up on this hill. It was twilight, and the stars were beginning to come out. So were the bats. ^^ I just stood there, watching the bats bomb dive on the mosquitoes, waiting for band camp to end, when this girl came up to me and started watching the bats too. She told me how cool bats were, and I agreed. Then we started talking... Then I went, "Hey. Aren't you in my cabin?" and she said, "Yeah. Hey, are you So-and-so's little sister?" (Yeah, my brother wasn't in band, but he was pretty popular in the whole art scene at my school.) One thing lead to another on that hill, then we eventually went down to the dance hall and she introduced me to the rest of the mega-geeks of the marching band.
And that's how I made all of my friends freshmen year.
(BTW, none of the mega-anime-geeks went in the dance hall. We spent the rest of the evening outside in a circle talking about anime a video games.)
So in actuality, I had a lot of fond memories of marching band, aside from the actual practice. Before practice started, me and my friends would play DDR and Soul Calibor in the graphic designs room or the orchestra room, we'd trade manga, bug the choir kids a bit...
Plus it gave me an excuse to be away from home a lot. :D
And if we did a good performance, we got a pizza party on that same night. :D
Kinda makes me a little disappointed that I only went through one year of high school band.
But I HATED our instructor.
But I must thank band for another thing: It got me out of gym with the help of a year of jazz dance.
Plus after my first year, all of my friends started graduating, so.... :shrugs:
I honestly liked middle school band a lot more. If only I had the friends I have now back then it would have been ultra fun.
But I'll always have that one year...
Well those are a selection of my fond memories of band camp. Sorry it took up so much time.
