Now is anyone disturbed a bit at how the Fire Nation Prison System (Boiling Rock) is ran? I mean it's mostly male/female as most prisons are male only or female only. I've been around 4chan a lot lately and this system kept in my brain from visiting some of the threads there that reminded me of the episode.
Was it really wise to make the prison unisex? I mean would the men just rape the women? If that was the way in real life, you will know that most prison rapes will be between men and women. Now the prison maybe heavily guarded. But come on now, that won't stop any of the men raping the women. Unless of course the prison is male only and female only. They just split the prison in half.
But then why was both male and females out together? Shouldn't there have been raped. Of course rape will never be shown, but the Fire Nation should have been smart enough to figure this out. Unless of course they just do not care if anyone gets raped. Thoughts?

Even if it was seperated there is still rape :/ Anyway the prisioners, i.e Suki, are already being raped by their captors, i.e Azula
Real reason, the plot required it because they had to save both Suki and Hakoda *shrug*

U know TBR is allowed outside of spoilers now...
Well Chitsang had a GF in prison.... But u wud think they wudn't hav unisex prisons... think about it whether it's rape or not it wudn't be convienient to hav prisoners getting pregant now wud it... I've never heard of a prison having a nursery... suppose they wud just foster the kids but still you think the FN wouldn't want to waste the money on midwifes and things... It just not practical

Maybe it's how they get all their soldiers?

Well we know that homosexual rape will most likely be down as in most prisons, but that will just make the "traditional" rape rise even more. Also what happened to Chitsang's buddy and girl? o.O

Yeah what did happen to her....It seemed odd that he just left her the 2nd time.... I'm looking foward to nxt few episodes they might explain who Chitsang is... I wud sort of think that any rape is more likely to occur between the guards and prisoners... if fighting and firebending are punishable then I imagine rape would recieve a harsher punishment

Maybe they ended up in the Cooler while Chit Sang was questioned.
And, yes, given their high regard for honour I can't see the Fire Nation looking kindly on such a crime as someone forcing themselves on another...

Since spoilers are allowed everywhere on the boards, this no longer has to be put into spoilers.

I think Mike and Bryan didn't think that people on fan forums would think of something like that. Since the show was aimed for little kids, most little kids wouldn't think of the set up of TBR as a rape waiting to happen. Also it's mainly what Azula's Flames said, They had to rescue Suki and Hakoda.

Well they should have thought of it. Oh the wonder joys of the PC world we live in. Censorship of the Internet, coming soon... Google Internet 2.

Maybe its because the Avatar world isn't like our world. In our real world we have to worry about pedophiles, serial killers, drunks, drug addicts, pastors, politicians, gangs, con-men, animal abusers, terrorists, thieves, child abuse, car mechanics, government agencies, and religious fanatics. We are all so messed up that we have to worry about same sex prison rapes too. I think the Avatar world is only concerned with mass genocide at the moment.

Kids learn about it eventually anyway, and usually alot quicker than parents realise. I dislike how alot of people keep kids blissfully unaware about real life. Alas, this is another argument entirely. On another note though, remember when smoking used to be prevalent in cartoons? Anyhoo...I can see why they put it that way: plot device. Also, the Avatar universe doesn't seem to have a gender bias, everyone is pretty equal.

^The Water Tribes?
Well this was one of the Most Dangerous Prisons. Actually, from what I gather, they're not really supposed to let people at the same time out, something like Block A, BLock B, Block C. And in the court areas, guards are armed and watching.
If the guards themselves tried rape, and due to FN standards, they'd do it discretely, they'd have to take on the most frightening female Criminals to the FN.

Ahh, thats right. The water tribes slipped my mind. Thanks for reminding me. However it seems its only the northern tribes, then again the southern has a shortage of men so who knows?

The water tribes weren't really gender bias, the Southern Tribe was happy about the course they had even if they are nothing more but close friends and family. Katara was the only person that had a problem with this in the Northern Tribe, despite the fact that she did "girly" course in the Southern Tribe. But referring back to Book 1 Episode 1, she did kind of get angry at the fact she did all of the clothes. But either way, Katara was really the only person to get ticked about the whole gender issues. Toph on the other hand, just doesn't give a crap. I am going to try and post a pictures of the prison. Perhaps the prison was separated. One all male side and one all female side. That wouldn't really be a problem, it's the courtyards where most of the female rape will take place. Remember no guards stop Zuko and Chitsang's fight before it was in plain view. So there are dark spots to the prison. Also, does anyone else think that Combustion Man may have served in the Boiling Rock? Surely they probably wouldn't want someone of his status there. I mean you will probably figure he'll rape some of the women and possibly even murder them not to mention the men. All I know is, I do not want to go there with a man his size. I guess that is extra punishment for female fallens, the Fire Nation probably thinks if they are raped, then they raped and that is what they get. Kind of dark really. But they do have to worry about babies, but perhaps they give them off to the service and train them as soldiers. Kind makes you think of the Fire Nation in an entirely dark stage.
