As many may or many not know google has launched street views for google maps.
What dose everyone think about this? Is this an invasion of your privacy.

I think the whole google earth letting u zoom in on cities and areas is flawed... It's just too easy u would think the kinda information in thise images shud be gaurded better I mean it makes it so easy for terrorists to get information about a city and that makes it all the more easier for the to identify targets to attack......

^^That's true admirality. I didn't think of how terrorists could use the information.
But as for invasion of privacy, I don't think it's that big of a deal. The picture of my house on google earth is from over 10 years ago. Our backyard is completely different and so is our house. Anyone could drive by and get the same or better information than what google is giving you.

You can't even see my house (middle of the woods) so I have no personal problem with it. As a soldier though, I can actually pick out my old barracks back in San Antonio on Google and that scares me that terrorists can see that information too. Complete base layouts and some such. I suppose one could just buy a map and get the same information though.

Well, so long as it doesn't give you great detail like the REAL satellites do... And just make sure you don't fan out your address so easily so people may over hear it in case these maps do give detail...
But in all honesty, it doesn't hurt to think like a stalker, or a serial killer every once in awhile.
Edit: Oh wait. This is PANORAMIC view, not aerial. Thennnnnnnnnnnn that might be a different story.

no, I dont much think its an invastion of privacy. so long as the public has it, it can not be abused beyond what we ourselves can do.
what worrys me is, if this is the kind of technology the public has access to, what kind of technology does the government have access to? They can Zoom in enough for easy identification, they can read your licence plates, likely, they can read what you read (to an extent), they can see how many people are in a house with infrared... what else can they do?

^Speaking on the licence plate matter, can't you go and look up people's info if you scribble down their plate number and go on the Department of Motor Vehicles' webpage? And yeah. There is too much info that the public has access to. Yeah peoples. Criminals make up the public ya know. And we all know that government's watching us. But that's a different discussion. >_>

Well, as far as I know only officials can view your info via DMV. I find it pretty freaky that googling my phone number my actual neighborhood popped up. Nice to know that I could have watched my neighbor blow up calling in an air strike on the coordinants! it was across the street... How ever, with a little leg work on the net I found a friend's house on a satellite image, as well as my own....including a near by military installation...now THAT was a bit disturbing...didn't think government would allow that to be public! The problem is that I can 'stalk' somebody with minimal info across the continent, even the world. It used to that you had to be close by. So while I am generally unconcerned about that, it does give me food for thought. There really is NO telling what anybody knows about you whatsoever these days! Discount/bonus cards, surveys, public records voluntarilly disclosed info....we are turning in to glass people...

not to mention the science of "consumer profiling" whereby the government can look at your credit card records, physiologically profile you biased on what you buy, and decide if your a national security threat or not and ship you off to guantanamo bay for questioning... luckily, I dont think many terrorists buy avatar merchandise.

No. It's not that bad. If someone wants to come after you, then they don't need Mapquest or Google Earth to do it. I mean... Honestly.

Well, if it's a feature to watch the streets of the city... how is it an invasion of privacy when it's a public space? If Google releases "Google Peep Shows" I would be concerned about this. Everything else is just concerning over something minimally intrusing.

Why should anyone worry about Google Maps having street views?
Its just like anyother map, except not drawn.
If I could find the same information by simply looking at a drawn street map, then why is anyone creeped out?
I sometimes catch looks of my old house I moved away from, to find my old car in the driveway (which it isn't by now).
If the information is technically outdated, then why worry?
Unless you are stupid enough to give your address online, how can anyone pin you to a house seen by satillite?
