Hey, I don't like it either. But I understand this much: putting TBR on the DVD before it airs is going to make the DVD sell better than it would otherwise.

come on, it funny that we seem to know what going on in the studios because we seem to have our own ops but no in the front offices of Nick.
I just have a good laugh when people try to think the reasons why

The lack of new episodes resulted in a Total Lack of Interest in Avatar for me (until now, anyway).

YAY air date! finally we have some date. but still it's stupid that they are releasing the book before it airs.
So will they be airing "the boiling rock" in america? i thought they weren't going to show that one, but only have it on dvd.

you just cant have a 5 month bread and then start trying to hype it up with commercials. this demographic for this show is boys 11-16. most people who watch avatar are not people who visit the forums.
they will have forgotten about it mostly. you need an episode or two before the break, and you hype it during the break.
there was a thread a long while agao in which we were all speculating on weather or not nick was trying to kill avatar's ratings for some reason. I said the worst thing the could possibly to do was to go months withoud any hint of avatar, and air it all in one week before anybody knows what hit them... I was wrong, the worst thing to do would be to do all of that, AND release movies and books before that week to try to dilute the interest of one of the biggest fan bases ever.
I for one suggest that we fans boycot the book entirely. none of us buy the book, and we close down all avatar forums from may 20th to July 13th.
Ill make a poll for this eventually, but It just hit me that I have ALLOT of work to do today and tomorrow.

fuego - Thanks for sharing.
KUNG FU ACTION JESUS - When "The Day of Black Sun" aired, didn't that generate some serious message board buzz? And didn't a new episode every week for nine weeks create some gigantic hype? Avatar is a massive, hype-generating machine in and of itself.
Zenjamin - I think you mean that the show's primary demographic is 6-11. =p
And closing down the forums seems a little extreme to me - just make a thread in the spoilers section where people can discuss the book (a spoilers section within the spoilers section), and everybody who hasn't read it can stay out.

Thanks for the info Zen! It's nice to know an actual airdate for once. No it doesn't make any sense, but Nick NEVER makes any sense, so we shouldn't be too surprised.
I kinda like the idea, maybe a few mini-marithon on a couple of nights. I can't think of a better way to spend an evening than watching a bunch of new Avatar eppies!!!
Hey at least we know when we are getting the new eppies, really that's great news to me. I could care less about how long we have to wait, we've waited longer right?!
Thanks again for the info Zenjamin!

This book thing is so gross. I understand the dvd thing, and I even think it's a pretty smart idea now that I've pondered it a bit. But the book is just blatant exploitation of the audience for $$. I'm with Zen that no one should purchase the book. Personally I don't want to know how it ends from a book. That's stupid. I have book series I read for that. This is a TV series and I want to see the end in action. But also I think no one should purchase the book because Nick needs to know this is not a a way to make money. Lately I feel like this audience is seen as marketing guinea pigs. I think they've never had a situation like this where they made a show for a 7+ audience and it had a wide-ranging appeal. The older audience didn't respond to the toys (obviously or they'd be making more toys) but they do buy the books and the dvds -- actually they buy the dvd box sets. So they're figuring out a way to make some money off the audience (everyone does this, not just Nick) and because the books actually sell, they're thinking this finale book will be a good money-maker. I don't want the spoilers. But if people must have them they should go to the bookstore, look at the book and put it back on the shelf without buying it. That way Nick will know in the future that it's not a good way to make $$. And maybe write them a letter on top of it. I'm shutting myself out of the forums after May 20th I think. I don't think the total spoiling of the ending will be containable to the spoiler forum so I'm just going to try to keep myself pure. We'll see if I succeed.

I for one suggest that we fans boycot the book entirely. none of us buy the book, and we close down all avatar forums from may 20th to July 13th. I don't think we should shut down the forums, but I agree for boycotting the book. I like spoilers, but in this case I would much rather see the finale before hearing about spoilers from a crappily written children's book. These are the last episodes of Avatar, and I want to enjoy them without having to dodge and evade spoilers about what happens. I can take seeing video clips and what not, but I want to actually see what happens first, not just read about it. Meaning that even if the forums aren't closed, then I might have to just avoid them and livejournal from May 20 to the finale. I think a better solution would be to ban talking about the book, even in the spoiers section, save for through private messages, or maybe in a specific thread. That sounds good to me...ban conversation about the book except in one thread in the spoilers section, and every where else, even in the rest of the spoilers section, talking about it is offlimits. I would love the mods forever if they would do that. I would still have to avoid LJ, but I still might be able to enjoy the forums for a little while before the finale airs.

Finally!! A release date!!! Im one of those people with a really short attention span. All this time i was without Avatar I started watching some other shows like SGA. I would have never thought I would like it bt it surprised me. back to topic.... I wouldnt mind reading books about avatar, i actually like reading..... as long as they kept the same characters, story, and humor i like so much. I have one question though...... how come you guys dont like the book idea? It's not like they're going to replace airing the show on tv for the book. This way people who will enjoy reading will read it and people who like watching on tv will watch it on tv.

I don't want the spoilers. But if people must have them they should go to the bookstore, look at the book and put it back on the shelf without buying it. Ah. And shall we all wear Blue Spirit masks while we do this? How renegade of you, maha. I'm shocked. ^.^ So is there any chance of them pushing back the book release date? This squished airing schedule is messed up ~ I don't see how I'm going to be able to catch all of those on the regular tube. Oh, for the day when TV and computer are completely merged. Purplejay, I wouldn't worry too much about kids not being able to watch on weeknights ~ there usually isn't a whole lot of homework for them in July. Still, it's far from an ideal viewing schedule, even if we were all kids with nothing better to do on a summer night. You know, I think I could stand the wait better if we were just told the reasoning behind it. I know, we'll probably never hear why it was all done this way. But being completely in the dark is a bit bewildering, and it sure would help with the patience if we were just thrown a bone.

This way people who will enjoy reading will read it and people who like watching on tv will watch it on tv. The main problem with the book is that people who read it are going to want to talk to each other, so there's a chance that if it's general discussion people who don't want to hear it are going to get spoiled. That and Avatar is a TV show. A lot of its aspects are visual, and this is the finale. I don't think they should just tell everyone what will happen in the finale of the entire show before the finale airs, but that's just me. I don't blame anyone who reads it, but I just don't want to hear about it.

The squished airing schedule is a problem for me. I have lots of shows that I watch regularly and if Avatar is on during all the timeslots, it'll really screw me up. As much as I love Avatar, I won't sacrifice some of these shows for it. I like a week break between episodes too.
