So I went to the pool to get some laps in yesterday. It was rather ironic that the local swim team was practicing at the same time in the lanes next to me (I am considering volunteering to help them). I watched their practice in between my sets, and was awed at this one drill: the coach had them hold a six inch stick above water and do butterfly kicks for 50 meters. Has anyone else here done this? It looked really hard. =o

^I've never done that drill, but I truly hate drills. We just got back from a month off so we're pretty much doing all drills. I'm going crazy.

I am so strong in the chest and arms (crawlstroke FTW!), that I could tell you I would sink like a rock in that drill after about 30 meters. =x

You are a BACKSTROKER! Who needs blocks? Real swimmers begin IN the water, right? You're one of the more creative swimmers on a team, and you have a great sense of humor. You get along really well with your coach and use reflective goggles so the sun wont kill your eyes. Being the first leg on the medley relay, many of your teammates look up to you as a leader. Ironic since that is my specialty...

LOL, I knew I would find this thread eventually. XDD
*takes quiz*
You are a BREASTSTROKER! Congratulations you frog. You have one of the sexiest strokes and eventhough you go last in your lane during practice, you can beat up the other swimmers with your arm and leg strenght. You are very smart, and you pay attention when the coach talks. Although you are capable of swimming other strokes, you enjoy this one the most because you have a good sense of rhythm & speed which when put together results in one kick Equus asinus swimmer.
LOL, that's pretty true to me. XD
As for our practices; we had the practice from hell part two (part one was last year) on Friday because during commandos (I'll explain that later) some girls started talking and WOULDN'T SHUT UP ALREADY so the coaches got mad and made us get BACK in the lanes and swim 4x100's on the 1:25. If we stopped, we'd do another one. We ended up doing 8x100's; I ended up swimming 2x400's STRAIGHT. >_<
But a normal practice for us contains swimming for an hour and a half and an hour of dryland. (On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays that means weights and pilates; every other day it's pilates and the medicine balls.)
Oh and dryland for days the coaches decide to be assholes is commandos----
Start on farthest side of the diving well; do a certain number of push-ups in the gutter of the pool (while in the water) facing away from the gutter; swim underwater across the diving well, get out and do a certain number of sit-ups. Get in the lap pool, swim across (butterfly if the coaches are really in a bad mood) and get out of the other side and do a certain number of push-ups. Get back in, swim across (underwater if coaches are being really mean), get out and do sit-ups. Get in diving well and swim underwater across. Get out and do push-ups in the gutter (in the pool in the gutter I mean) towards the wall (the opposite from the beginning ones at the beginning of the commando.
That, my friends, is ONE (count 'em), ONE commando. We tend to do FIVE on a bad day. >_<
Oh and on a REALLY bad day we do IM's all practice and then commandos. >>_<<

We used to do tons of laps and that was it. Nothing like what you described. Now I get into the pool, and I am happy to pull off one vigorous 200 without a break, rofl. After that, I feel dismayed that I am so out of shape. So I settle for a few more 100s with breaks in between. =/

@sg: 00000_000000 I don't think I could ever do that. I've heard of people swimming a hundred 100's [freestyle]on the 1:45 (or 1:40); but fifty 100 IM's on the 1:25......Ouch. *_*
@ld (Or should I call you kaa? XD): I know, swimming ain't no easy sport. As my swim coach always says, if swimming was easy, it'd be called football. XD
It just seems to get harder and harder as the years go by instead of getting easier. XD

So I'm not a swimmer, but I do know how competitive and serious it is. My cousin got dual citizenship in Colombia and swam with their Olympic team. She told me how crazy it is and how that was the hardest few weeks of her life. xP

You are a DISTANCE swimmer! The most physically and mentally in shape person on the team. You can stomach any practice, and laugh at those who complain. You probably have a song of the week in your head when you swim, and concentrate mostly on your long pulls and a consistent kick throughout your race. You love swimming long distance because you're in the water longer for the audience to cheer you on!
Whew I luff my swimming!

I'm not much of a swimmer, but my friend's on the swim team, and he's crazy good. He's broken a ton of school records, and he's only a junior.
