Most people know Holly Black as the writer behind The Spiderwick Chronicles. There is little (if any) talk about her trilogy of Modern Faerie Tales, which includes the novels Tithe, Valiant and Ironside.
I'm a rabid Holly Black fan, and I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about her various works.

Oh, I love these three novels! SO much better than 'Twilight', imho - strong, capable, interesting female protagonists who grow and grapple with their own coming of age, their own destinies and all that jazz. I love the way she makes the ordinary strange and the strange ordinary - well, I'm a big fan of oldskool fairytales, in all their bloody, changeable glory, and I think Holly Black does a lovely job here. Another writer who's working in a similar vein is Melissa Marr, whose 'Wicked Lovely' I adored - can't wait to get 'Ink Exchange' once it comes out in paperback. Cassie Clare's 'City of Bone' is also along these lines, come to think of it. Good stuff.
And then, of course, there's Neil Gaiman - 'Neverwhere', 'American Gods', 'Anansi Boys' and of course the comics all bring this same sort of wonderful juxtaposition of magical and mundane. (They're a bit denser and less acessible, though - more tightly packed with references to myths and legends. But thoroughly awesome.)
