one of my really good friend recommened it to me after she had read it in grade 7 so after that i decided to read it and i'm really glad i did i read it in under 4 days because it was that good, it wasvery different but yet down to earth at the same time. and Gathering Blue did not have the specialness of Th Giver but it still was very magical and i still idid enjoy. Those two books are among the many of my favorites.

One of my favorite books of all time. I never thought I would like it when I read it. Amazing.

If you guys like The Giver, you should give Gathering Blue a try as well. It's also by Lois Lowry and it has that same haunting plot. It's really good too.

I read that book in the eighth grade. I have a fond memory for that book. Though I'd probably read through it now in about an hour, I still find it very fascinating and very powerful. We were also instructed to read Animal Farm by George Orwell and Anthem by Ayn Rand and discuss all three at the same time, find any relevances, and to tell you the truth - they all do have one great thing in common - everything is almost presently scary. We might actually end up like those in The Giver, history may repeat itself as it was represented in Animal Farm (Russian Revolution of 1917), and individuality may be gone (Rand's Anthem). I suggest reading all three dystopic novels to obtain a better understanding of a dystopia. The two are very short ('bout 100-200 pages each, I can't ballpark it too closely or I may be off), and I recommend reading each in succession for a powerful understanding of life and society itself.
Okay, I'll shut up now. XD

I loved the Giver. Very interesting and a bit creepy.
Yah, I must admit, I've never read anything like it. I think everyone should read this book.
