The thing that really got to me in that passage was the helm of "extraordinary craftsmanship" resting on someone's head.
Maybe it's just me, but that just sounds unprofessional.
And I remember laughing out loud at the liquid silver analogy.

I got lost because the whole prologue was just one big description.
Paolini's supposedly very smart.

I don't doubt that at all.
I've seen some interviews, and he definitely comes across as pretty intelligent. But sometimes he just seemed a bit too arrogant, I don't know. Anyway, I don't have anything against him. I'm sure he's a nice person and all, I just don't like his books. xD

Maybe he should apply his smarts to something else after he finishes the last book.

I liked the books okay until I started hearing some of the critisms of them, and realized most of them were right. I still like them, but not as much as I once did. (And then I wrote a book and was like, "heh, that paragraph is horrible. I could write a better paragraph than that." And "You call that a plot point? Get real, Paolini.") Also, I heard somewhere along the line he said that he's the new JRR Tolkien. There is no new JRR Tolkien. JRR Tolkien is the new JRR Tolkien. BLASPHEMY! I like Eragon and Chris, but it/he can not compare itself/himself to J.R.R Tolkien! Tolkien is just....BEYOND Eragon and it's "Rippling silver liquid"

J.R.R. Tolkien surpasses even J.K. Rowling (even though I love Harry Potter).

JK and JRR are tougher to compare due to the differences in their genre and styles. BUt i guess he is better.

J.R.R. Tolkien is said to be better. I haven't really read Lord of the Rings, though. The most I've read is The Hobbit.

It's really a matter of opinion when you're comparing JKR to Tolkien. They both have very different writing styles, and their books are completely different.
As opposed to comparing Tolkien to Paolini. They have similar plotlines and they write for the same genre, so it's easier to compare the authors fairly. Not that anyone would want to. o__o

Paolini isn't as good as JKR or JRR. (Hee.... JRR and JKR....)

It's still a matter of opinion, but I think the advantage is...uh, strongly on the side of JKR and Tolkien there. Sorry, Paolini, but rippling in the moonlight like liquid silver? Ow.

I don't think he ever used the same horrible phrase again, but if I re-read the book I'm sure I'll find something.
All of this bashing makes me want to read it again to see if it really is that bad. XD
