These are some of the best fantasy books I have read, and I have made it a practice for me to read the trilogy a least once every summer.
(movie version coming out next year, I'm nervous, but not entirely neagative.)

Book to movie adaptations are doomed to fail

The books were wonderful.
I can't wait for the movie. From what I've seen of the actors so far, it looks like they picked them out pretty well.

I've read all the books, and I can't wait to see the movie, even though the movies usually don't do justice to the books.

*jumps up and down* I read the books this summer. They were incredible. I got all my friends hooked on them, too. *can't wait for the movie, even though it'll be nowhere near as good as the books*

I loved this series. I thought it was really well written. I am a bit negative about the thought of a movie, but I just don't really like books-turned-movies. I tend to get really picky about stuff that's different.

Book to movie adaptations are doomed to fail Yah, like LOTR and Harry Potter. Theyre all massive flops. </sarcasm> If you think all film adaptations of books suck, thats because you arent viewing those movies as a cinematic experiance. All i care about is whether it gets the sequels, and its quality as a MOVIE. Yah they are going to make changes, i couldnt care less. I want it to be a good movie. It coud be completely faithful and still suck.

I had no idea they were making a movie...sweet *hunts for info*
I loved these books...I read them a long time ago...Pan's definitely my favorite character.
The one thing I didn't like was the ending though.

The one thing I didn't like was the ending though. I know what you mean. I read them all, despite a classmate's comment that they were sacreligious(SP?). I liked them all right, but the ending killed it for me. The author also hates the Narnia books, it turns out. I loved those books.

It never condemns the idea of religion or god, just the way it is used and organized now.

That was a classmate, not me. I love Narnia. Just got the new volume. All the books in one!

HDM is a really good trilogy and was the first series that touched me. The trilogy in itself is giving another side to the dogmas many people believe in. I really liked it despite the somewhat tragic ending.

I'm reading The Amber Spyglass now and I love the series! I find it to be a difficult read sometimes, with the lack of dialogue, though, but it has such a great storyline. I don't know what happens to Will and Lyra, but I totally want them to end up together. There was a line in The Subtle Knife about their friendship, and it made me cry. It was such beautiful writing.
I was very disappointed with the movie. It was so strange that the entire second and third parts of the story were switched around so Lyra went to Svalbard before Bolvangar. Then they left the entire last scene out of the book! I heard that it was going to be the beginning of the next movie, but since this one flopped, there might not even be another one.

But New Line didn't get most of the profit from overseas, so it was a flop for the company. I didn't have a problem with them switching around Bolvangar and Svalbard. The cutting of the ending I did mind, as it severely hindered the quality of the movie. From what I heard Weitz' original script was quite good, but the studio messed with it too much. Judging from some of Weitz' statements, I think if there was a sequel, it would be a noticable improvement. Anywayz, this is a book thread, so back on topic I guess. Mulefa's legs confuse me.
