I think the only thing that annoys me is that people think she invented vampires and all these clichés that come associated with them before the book was even published.
Agreed. That is perhaps one of the main reasons why I despise the (crazy, rabid, annoying side of the) fanbase. It's annoying when they go on and on about how a-maaaazing "vampires" are, yet feign disinterest when you point out that the concept of vampires has been around since Bram Stoker wrote Dracula in the late 1800s, and even then vampire mythology has been around for centuries before then.
When it comes to the younger fans, it doesn't irritate me as much, since they can't really help it and most of us went through an insufferable phase when we were teenyboppers. What makes me want to slam my head against the wall is when the older fans, i.e. girls my age, try to argue that vampires aren't supposed to have fangs. I mean, REALLY? I disagree with the argument that since it's fiction, it doesn't really matter. If you give a cyclops two eyes instead of one, you've taken away the very characteristic that defines it in mythology. Same with vampires supposedly having no fangs.
