The parallel novel thing with Feast and Dance annoys me a little. Like, after waiting a long time for the next one we don't even find out what happens with a lot of the plot threads.
At least there's no Cersei. She made me raaaaaage.

Ha, this sounds like my kind of book. XD
They make a show or movie out of everything now.

HBO is planning adaptation. I think it will probably end up quite good, but get canceled after season 1 or 2 because HBO can never afford elaborate sets anyway.

Just started reading Game of Thrones (I'm about halfway through by now). The more I read, the more I'm certain Tyrion would have to be played by Warwick Davis if they ever made a movie.
The Water Tribes' new motto should be "Winter is coming"

Warwick Davis is the go-to midget after all.
Tyrion's a pretty great character. A Game of Thrones is great, albeit a little slow if I remember right. The series picks up some once all the war and crap starts.

I'm on page 350 or so, and the war hasn't started, and it's still a d@mn solid book.

Oh, lord, yes, this is an OUTSTANDING series!
Controversial sexual themes, though? No, I don't think that's why more people haven't read them - I mean, hello, Heinlein? Anne Rice? Laurell K Hamilton? Sex sells. But these are big, intelligent, chewy, thought-provoking books, and a lot of fantasy readers prefer more fluff and escapism in their novels. George R R Martin has achieved something genuinely un-generic here; for all that it IS a nonexistant world, and for all that there ARE dragons and magic, the feel is still very much that of a gritty historical novel, rather than a fantasy series. It's real dirt-under-the-fingernails stuff, lots of politics, lots of shades of grey, and no sense of security that the virtuous will win the day, or that the characters you care about will live or triumph.
With fantasy - actually, I'd say with all art, in all media - some people look for escapism, and some people look for realism - for something that holds a mirror up to nature. Martin is one of the latter.
I've not yet read A Dance With Dragons, though - didn't realise it was out! Must hie me to my bookseller post haste!
I'm distinctly nervous about the prospect of this series being made into a TV show. SciFi did an okay job with 'Dune', though, so fingers crossed it won't suck too much...

I have relatively high expectations of the HBO show, and my only real concern currently is it actually getting made. I find it very unlikely that they'd be able to do the whole series.

Oh! I beg your pardon - I thought it was odd that my bookshop hadn't stocked them yet, but since nobody had demurred in-thread, I was assuming that this
was accurate. My bad - I should have Googled to check.
It's to be an HBO production (if it happens)? Well, that's cheering, at any rate. Fingers crossed!
