Yes, it's true. Every video game has some sort of glitch in it. The ones in the Pokemon games are the most interesting I have found so far. Here's a few, and you can add to the list if you find more.
Missingno
If you've been playing the games for awhile, then you've probably heard of Missingno. It's found in r/b/y. Encountering it causes the graphics to temporarily screw up and it overwrites your Hall of Fame info with garbage. It comes in four different forms:
(I couldn't find pics for the other 2, but one looks like an un-silphed ghost and the other looks like an Aerodactyl fossil.)
Follow these steps to make it appear:
1. go to Viridian and talk to the old man north of the town.
2. Watch him give the demonstration on how to catch a weedle.
3. Fly to Cinnibar Island and surf on the right side of the island. It will only work if you're right next to the coast. Keep surfing, and a Missingno should appear.
'M
'M is basically the same as Missingno, but it has been known to screw the game up worse. Careful, because the game may freeze when you find one. To make 'M appear, follow the steps to find Missingno.
Glitch City
Glitch City is a programming error found in r/b/y. It basically looks like a two-year-old's attempt at putting a Pokemon city together. If the game is saved while in Glitch City, you must have a Pokemon that knows fly or you'll be stuck there forever. You can do unusual things here, like surf on rocks, walk on water, and get stuck in the middle of nowhere. Here's how to get there:
1. Go to the Safari Zone and pay the money to enter.
2. Leave. When the dude asks you if you want to leave early, say no and go back in.
3. Save the game and shut it off.
4. Turn the game on. Exit the Safari Zone. This time, the dude will say "Welcome to the Safari Zone!" and ask if you want to enter. Say no, and you will be sent outside.
5. You now have 500 steps to waste somewhere. Ideal places are the right side of Cinnibar or Cycling Road. The PA will say "Ding-dong! Your time is up!" and you will return to the Safari Zone entrance building. Exit the building, and you will be in Glitch City.
The Truck
I don't know much about this glitch. I know it's found near the SS Anne, and some people say Mew is found by it. (This is NOT TRUE.) If anyone knows how to get to it or has a pic, I would appreciate it if you would post it please!
??
This is the Ruby and Sapphire version of Missingno. I don't know how to get it, or whether it is found in Emerald. It does screw up the game really bad, so I wouldn't suggest catching it.
Bad Eggs
Bad eggs are the result of using Gameshark codes to catch Jirachi and Deoxys in Ruby and Sapphire. Sorry, but you'll have to find other ways to get them. Encountering one on the wild sometimes causes the game to freeze, and catching one could erase your file. Bad Eggs usually don't hatch, and if it does, it will hatch into a Bad Egg.
PUT IT AWAY
I found this one not too long ago in my Pokemon Gold version. One of the decorations in mystery gift is glitched (I think it's the Virtual Boy, but I'm not sure.) If you click on it, it will say "It's an adorable PUT IT AWAY."
Infinite Items
I have no idea why this works, but if you manage to catch a Missingno, whatever item you have in the 6th position, you will have an infinite number of it.
Also, I found a video on how to catch Mew in r/b/y: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E757YbGVWoo&mode=related&search=
